One final (and great) answer from our August poet Will Stanier: Q: Hey Will, have a favorite typo? A: Absolutely. I once got an email addressed as “Dead Will”, instead of Dear Will. I think of that typo weekly. *** Be sure to visit ADozenNothing.com to read new poems by @flatstanley.bsky.social!

When I asked to be promoted to a server, the restaurant manager told me I could if I personally found someone to replace my job. So perfect pyramid scheme of faux parking valets.

CA Conrad has talked about a method to put poems away in a drawer and return to them in two weeks. And then see what they are. I follow that advice. After that, if I can make a few key edits and see the poem as a concrete thing, then it is done.

Crossing the street, reading signs, thinking about the names of skyscrapers. Elsewhere during the reading he talks about writing from the surface of things, with immediacy. I’ve always treasured that advice, a welcome alternative to “plumbing the depths”. ***

Berrigan reads the poem twice in succession, and speaks a little bit about the magic of a poem coming at you to collect as words on paper.

Q: Hey Will, do you ever use chance elements when writing? A: I consider the poem itself to be the chance element. So yes, whatever enters into the present frame of the poem-to-be is gainful input. I like to listen to archival poetry readings.
