What's your favorite retro game cutscene? Making Heartworm, my goal was to build a game that felt like it could have existed alongside the survival horror games I grew up with. I LOVED the prerendered cutscenes in them. And @thehangingrabbit.bsky.social absolutely killed it with his work on ours.

It was mostly logistics - locations, actors, all that. I think if I was better at networking I would be interested in making movies but I don't think I could organize it, especially during development

Fun fact - Heartworm almost had live action cutscenes but it was too logistically complicated to figure out. And reminder!!! HEARTWORM is out on PC and consoles NOW

This is the attract cinematic that plays when the main menu is idle. The Resident Evil 2 one used to give me nightmares - I actually remember shutting the TV off because I was too afraid lol.

Those older games were low fidelity and left a lot to the imagination, I loved the little snippets of high resolution video we would get to show what the designers really wanted the world to look like, and help fill in the gaps in my imagination. Or in Resident Evil's case, the live action footage.
