Arty-Fact: "From western modern art, Cubism and Surrealism are two fundamental conceptual influences on me. However, the overall construction of my work is still rooted in traditional Chinese painting, both in terms of composition and technique. I try to focus on the lyric element in an image, a symbolist approach: to suggest, not to define." ~ Lu Hong

"Lotus" by Lu Hong, 1990

The Art Scoop: Five elongated, stylised figures emerge from a layered composition of deep blue and green, their bodies defined by fine geometric lines, circular forms and delicate details. White lotus flowers bloom above and between them, creating a serene, symbolic contrast to the dark, abstract background and giving the work a contemplative quality.

“Man is a complex being. He makes deserts bloom and lakes die.” ~ Gil Scott-Heron 🎨 Get Your Art Fix! "Desprestigio" by Pejac After headlines fade, the environmental damage remains. Available 🔗 bit.ly/3qqoIzA #Pejac #Desprestigio #Sculpture #EnvironmentalDisaster #OceanPollution #ArtCollectors
Title: Desprestigio

Artist: Pejac

Medium: Hand painted mixed media sculpture inside PET bottle mounted on beech wooden base, signed and numbered by the artist

Edition: #3/30

Year: 2017

Size: 35.0cm (L) x 13.0cm (H) x 9.7cm (W)

Good To Know: Original shipping box, stored in humidity controlled art storage facility, accompanied by a CoA (Certificate of Authenticity) issued by the artist.

The Art Scoop: In the words of the artist:

"This piece talks about the tragedy (of Prestige) that covered the coast of my country (and my region) in black [two decades] ago, and whose damage to nature is still visible today. I chose this particular case, but want to extend it to all the environmental tragedies that happen on our seas and oceans every few years. Desprestigio works as a dark souvenir of a fact that should not be forgotten: we must, and can, be much better guests on Earth. After all, this work is a message in a bottle.’’ ~ Pejac

Price: £5,500 negotiable; excludes international shipping and applicable import duties / charges.

Please contact our gallery to obtain a shipping quote. Delivery within Singapore is free.In November 2002, the oil tanker MV Prestige split in two and sank off the coast of Galicia, carrying 77,000 metric tonnes of heavy fuel oil and causing one of Europe’s worst environmental disasters.

With Desprestigio, Pejac transformed the catastrophe into a dark souvenir of human negligence and environmental irresponsibility. The sculpture recreates the doomed tanker inside a PET plastic bottle, itself a familiar derivative of crude oil.

Each of the 30 editions was hand-painted and assembled by Pejac, including the weathered details of the vessel and its stencilled name, Desprestigio, meaning “discredit” or “disgrace”.

The familiar message in a bottle becomes a stark reminder that after the headlines fade, the environmental damage remains.

One arm reaches above her head while the other moves across the front of her body, as long dark hair sweeps dramatically across her face and shoulders.
