Perhaps although the very rich have always been able to pay they way out of their liabilities. That needs dealing with. The biggest hole in the tax gap is small businesses and self employed.

Don't confuse "wealth" with "super-wealth". The wealthy already pay their fair share because their wealth generally comes from earnings. But the super-wealthy pay nothing because they earn very little on paper. They instead make money with their money — which isn't taxed because we only tax earnings

The HMRC has all but lost it's presence. Example. On the early 1990s, Hull had *four tax offices *Customs & excise *Valuation *Collectors It now has zero. Nada. Nowt. All those investigations gone. All that guidance to small businesses gone. All those settlements with none payers gone.

Breaking those cycles that keep people in their worlds is the dull dirty work that doesn't win elections. Poverty, mental health, addiction, missed education and homelessness all feed each other. Fixing just one or two of these will improve millions of lives

From HMRC "the tax gap from small businesses is the largest component of the tax gap by customer group with a 62% share in 2024 to 2025; the tax gap from individuals makes up the lowest proportion of the tax gap at 4% in 2024 to 2025"

Yes. The big avoiders need dealing with but actually, the real big money is from low level avoidance by small business /selfemployed. The old Inland Revenue had multiple offices in every small town and city. Customs were also inost cities. They all had investigators. It's all gone.

Watched all the vox pops in this English surrealist nightmare of a town yesterday...every single one complaining about "fighting age men" being allowed so close to their village...not one journalist asked: "Wasnt it a military base before?" This cake tent rebellion is just racism, pure and simple.

What neoliberalism did to the UK. 25.3m people, including 14.9m working adults and 7.7m children, live below minimum income standard. Richest 1% has more wealth than the bottom 70% of the population combined. 50 families hold more wealth than 34m people. Can't grow economy on mass poverty.

"Counter terror won’t let him on stage yet” a senior Reform figure says, explaining the delay in Nigel Farage’s speech at the Reform UK conference.20:08 4 September

Jack Fenwick
Political correspondent

West Midlands Police say the decision to delay Nigel Farage's conference speech "was made by Reform UK".

A senior Reform figure earlier told the BBC that Farage's speech was delayed because "counter terror won't let him on stage yet".

But West Midlands Police say: "We can confirm that Counter Terrorism Policing have had no involvement in the delivery of the Reform UK Party Conference 2026."

We all know these people. They drive the political narrative against the young, the disabled, trans, unemployed , vulnerable and anyone not from their street. This pandering to them has to stop. This sort of footage should be used to expose their type and embarrass anyone like it.

They don't have enough MPs to raise a football team, their leader isn't even an MP and there are fewer of them NOT under investigation for some sort of shady behaviour. Why are the MSM allowing them to promote this obvious distraction technique as of they are actually in power?

Business Rate avoidance is rarely reported in MSM. Here is one scheme declared unlawful by the Courts. Its promoters claim it resulted in loss of £500m revenue to local councils. It involves shuffling boxes with redundant contents in unoccupied properties. The enablers face no penalties.

Actually sick pay rules HAVE changed recently. To the benefit of workers. Not that you’d know that because it’s hasn’t really been reported. Strange.
Statutory Sick Pay
Changes
Statutory Sick Pay is now payable from the first full day of sickness absence and is available to more employees. This change was introduced on 6 April 2026.
Key changes
• Statutory Sick Pay is available to all eligible employees regardless of their earnings (the Lower Earnings Limit has been removed).
• Statutory Sick Pay is payable from the first full day of sickness absence (the three-day waiting period has been removed).
• The rate of Statutory Sick Pay for all employees is calculated at 80% of their average weekly earnings or the flat weekly rate, whichever is lower.
