Visited the fascinating Roskilde Viking Ship Museum today. 🇩🇰 Their largest warship was built in Dublin with oak from Wicklow. To me it's a reminder of the ancient woodlands which once covered so much of Ireland. The reconstruction called The Sea Stallion from Glendalough sailed to Dublin in 2007.

Question for anyone else from #Cork: Does anyone know where Glankittane/Clankittane Square was in the city? I know it was near the barracks but i can't find the exact location of the square anywhere. Was it demolished or renamed? Trying to find where my ancestors lived based on the 1926 Census.

As someone who wastes too much time zooming around Google Maps, its great to see an expanded area of 3d imagery for #Cork, including Ballincollig, Carrigaline, Midleton and the harbour. The imagery for the city was also updated. You can tell it isn't too recent as the R&H Hall is still present.

Lund 🇸🇪 (pop: 95,000) is less than half the size of Cork 🇮🇪 (pop: 225,000) yet it has its own modern tram line. One of many things this small Swedish university city does so well.

Now living in Sweden, I recently tried oat milk (Oatly) for the first time and have since kept buying it. I prefer the taste with cereal and I now also use it for cups of tea. It looks like milk and I use it for the same purposes. Surely the oat in the title is enough to differentiate?

In a way TII are right. Public transportation projects take so long in this country (Metrolink delayed again, Cork BusConnects...) that a quick fix is impossible. I'd love to see Metro West but how many years would it take for it to happen? How many delays, objections, appeals...

Finished reading The Lie of the Land by @thinkorswim.bsky.social this morning. I'd highly recommend this to anyone trying to wrap their head around the climate crisis, and what Ireland can do to mitigate and adapt to it. The book does a brilliant job at making the overwhelming understandable.

It's so much easier in Sweden, where it's quick and easy to buy tickets on an app. Tickets are also integrated between bus, rail and tram. Much better than constantly topping up a physical Leap Card through a faulty app, only to use on an incredibly slow machine on the bus.

The fact that you can't even use contactless or an app (without a physical Leap Card) to pay for the bus shows how neglected Ireland's public transport is. Only one issue in a long list of ways Ireland decides to keep doing transport worse than most of Europe.

Bus Éireann would be a fantastic contestant on the Traitors - being able to lie about everything without ever being held accountable for it. Waiting 40+ minutes for a service that’s supposed to be every 15, when there’s no traffic at all to delay it, is simply unacceptable. Cork deserves better.

Ireland acts like it needs to reinvent the wheel when better solutions already exist. They should come look at Lund. Abundant cycle infrastructure separated from busy roads, in a city where it's easier to bike than drive.
