Brooklynites voted to elect new District Leaders with the power to elect a new party chair. No one has the power to overturn that election result, and certainly not the outgoing district leaders who just lost their seats. We are glad to see democracy validated in court again.

Let us be clear: Brooklyn needs a fair vote by the elected District Leaders. The Chair attempting to pick her own successor after she lost an election isn’t democracy, it's cronyism, and the illegal rules changes she has fought to enact would permanently end democratic oversight of our party.

With only 7 weeks until the midterms, Dems need a Brooklyn party that knocks on doors and wins races, not one that is preoccupied with fighting its own voters. Join us tomorrow morning before the County Committee meeting to call for an end to this ongoing misuse of party funds.

Yesterday, a judge ruled that the Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair has no right to change the party rules post-election to prevent a legitimate handover of power. We look forward to the election of a new chair on September 23. Full statement: www.newkingsdemocrats.com/court_stops_...

Brooklyn deserves a transparent, accountable, & competent Democratic Party. In June, we elected the majority we need to make it so. Now the party chair is planning to subvert that election. We didn't tolerate election subversion on Jan 6 and we won't tolerate it now in Brooklyn. Hands Off Our Vote!

Republicans are making the unpaid, trained professionals at TSA work alongside overpaid, untrained goons at ICE. Apparently, it's not going well... Adding insult to injury is a loser move. Americans are suffering now, but Republicans will pay the costs in November. #ICEout #FundTSA

Airport delays continue to put pressure on lawmakers and the White House, but a deal remains elusive as Senate Democrats hold out for restraints on immigration agents.

"Hi, my name is… and I’m a voter living in [your neighborhood and zip code]. I’m calling to urge you to do everything you can to pass New York for All (S.2235/A.3506) in its entirety. With ICE's escalating violence against our communities, New Yorkers cannot wait any longer for legislative action that meets this moment. At a public lecture celebrating his 90th birthday, Jürgen Habermas concluded his remarks like this: (1/4)
"These statements are formulated in the hypothetical subjunctive. For today, the solidarity-generating source of democratic practice is already drying up in our various countries. With few exceptions, the political elites are letting themselves be disarmed by an ideologically inflated social complexity and have lost the courage to pursue a transformative policy. Meanwhile, the national public spheres, which are parched of almost all really relevant issues, have turned into arenas of distraction and indifference, if not of reciprocally fuelled nationalist resentment. If we are not content with gloomy diagnoses, we can learn something important from a Kant enlightened by Marx: the mole of reason is blind only in the sense that it recognizes the resistance of an unsolved problem without knowing whether there will be a solution. At the same time, it continues to tunnel forward obdurately in its subterranean passages. Kant inculcated this mentality in us along with his insights—indeed, his philosophy consists in collecting good reasons for this mentality of encouraging hope even in the face of disaster. And is not that the crowning glory of his wonderfully illuminating philosophy?"

Jürgen Habermas, "Once again: On the relationship between morality and ethical life." Lecture delivered at Goethe University Frankfurt, June 19, 2019. Translated by Ciaran Cronin.
