Fabulous discussion of a new benchmark text in the theory and methods of causal inquiry. Quizzed by data scientists, IR theorists, comparativists and policy-facing colleagues, Adam had compelling answers for us all. 👏🏻

If you've ever used the Polity data, read this from Monty Marshall. tl;dr Polity is coding recent US events as an executive self-coup and an adverse regime change.

I gathered up my reading notes on the deeply fascist new book by Trump's Defense Secretary pick, Pete Hegseth, on my substack, Scenes from a Slow Civil War. I think I may rev that thing up again, too. Please consider subscribing. slowcivilwar.substack.com/p/the-pentag...

Out today from OUP: global.oup.com/academic/pro... Free and open access anywhere in the world, and the product of nearly 10 years work with the inestimable Hidemi Suganami, this book seeks to provide a fuller, more adequate account of causal inquiry than has so far been developed in IR

Excellent article on the cyber attack on the British Library; my guess is that the lessons apply very strongly to most universities: ciaranmartin.substack.com/p/on-the-mat...

The most important lesson to figure out is why it is taking so long to restore services. That will tell us how to prevent such a calamity in other vital national institutions.
