This past Saturday marked 61 years since the birth of Chris Riley. Chris played a pivotal role in Austin for so long, both on City Council and as an urbanist elder statesman inspiring the next generation. I think of Chris often and miss him deeply. He'll be long remembered. Happy Birthday Chris!

Washington State has just legalized shared streets / woonerven statewide. This is a stunning development with far reaching implications. I hope this will inspire other jurisdictions to codify shared streets. Austin's Living Streets program would benefit greatly from more defined standards.
