Justin Edwards’ mom — a diehard Celtics fan until her son signed with the Sixers — was very excited to meet Jaylen Brown’s mom yesterday. “Everybody’s hype.”

Labaron Philon Jr. says he’s watched a lot of Rajon Rondo defensive film and has gotten to know Rondo in recent years.

090

Are there any teammates you feel you’re particularly on the same page with right now? Labaron Philon Jr.: The bigs. Highlighted Joel Embiid’s 2-on-1 defense as impactful. “Offensively, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a big that can score, pass and do everything at once.”

030

Labaron Philon Jr. wants to be a “ball hawk” defensively, he said, adding he feels like he’s gotten a lot of steals in Sixers training camp. Stressed the importance of being in the right place at the right time.

070

“The first day of training camp, LeBron was coming at me full speed,” Labaron Philon Jr. said. “I was backpedaling.” That is when being in the NBA felt real, the rookie said. (He went for the strip, LeBron passed the ball.)

Labaron Philon Jr. says he’s been asking Jaylen Brown about shot-making over close contests and LeBron James about taking care of his body.

Nick Nurse on Joel Embiid’s offensive role: “We are trying to move him around the floor a little more frequently this season.” Nurse acknowledged Embiid, Jaylen Brown and LeBron James all like to operate in similar spots on the floor and the Sixers have to work through that.

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 9h

Nick Nurse says Labaron Philon Jr. has an “ability to run an offense.” “He really takes command” of an offense and can create offense in a short burst when a possession goes haywire.

Sixers training camp: Jaylen Brown leaning on Tyrese Maxey; LeBron James' role coming into focus

As Jaylen Brown transitions, he is both instructing and listening to new teammates. Meanwhile, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse shed some light on LeBron James' potential role Thursday.

“Tyrese has been a great leader. He’s been a great host,” Jaylen Brown said. “…He’s been the one making sure everybody has been accommodated.”

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Jaylen Brown dropped a “Trust The Process” twice. He hopes the Sixers’ starting five gets on the court in preseason. He wants the group to have a “growth mindset” & understand that it will take time. “Patience is a virtue,” Brown said, “and you’ve just got to trust the process.”

0160

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Jaylen Brown said he’s enjoyed and appreciated Nick Nurse focusing on defense first. Brown thinks that’s where games will be won or lost for these Sixers.

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Jaylen Brown says a lot of younger Sixers have shown him early respect and asked to jump into his workouts.

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Jaylen Brown on Tyrese Maxey: “He’s just been a great communicator. He’s been leading with his voice early on. He's going out of his way to make sure that I feel comfortable in the system.”

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Nick Nurse: Joel Embiid and LeBron James have been “part of everything” the Sixers have done over the first three days of training camp. “They’re not overdoing it, but yet they want to get reps.”

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Asked Nick Nurse for the latest on Adem Bona (foot sprain): “Bona’s not practicing.” He’ll be reevaluated in the next couple of days, Sixers added. Nurse thinks Bona will be ready for “a couple of the” preseason games.

031

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Nick Nurse says “I think we’ve got several guys” that can “grab and go” and enough “secondary triggers” that “it shouldn’t matter” who is nominally the point guard for the Sixers. But he expects LeBron James to either bring the ball up or receive the first pass of the possession.

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Nick Nurse says today’s Sixers practice was more of a “mental day” after two very rigorous practices the prior days. “Initial phases” on offense, defense and special teams (out-of-bounds plays, etc.) were the focuses.

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Sixers say an MRI revealed Tacko Fall has a left hip strain. He’ll be reevaluated in about two weeks.

“I love Dean Wade,” Tyrese Maxey says and repeats. “I can already tell, man.” Maxey says Wade is a “funny guy, a stand-up guy” and that he plans to get on Wade about shooting as many threes as possible. “He knows how to star in his role… He’s a great teammate, too.”

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been “fantastic” early in Sixers camp, Tyrese Maxey said. Said Caldwell-Pope can be an especially valuable presence and example for someone like Justin Edwards.

“I don't feel like I've been able to get into my bag of defensive stuff nearly as much as I would like to,” Sixers head coach Nick Nurse says of the last few years. He thinks this team will enable him to do that.

Nick Nurse has been “super impressed” with rookie guard Labaron Philon Jr. so far, he said. “He was really holding his own everywhere.”

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Everyone other than Adem Bona and Tacko Fall was a full participant in today’s Sixers practice, Nick Nurse said. Fall had a “hip thing” that took him out about halfway through the day.

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Nick Nurse says he wants to get his starters in preseason action but didn’t want to commit to it. A lot can happen between now and then. “I think they’ll all get out there.” Assumes it would be a one-half thing if so.

Nick Nurse says the Sixers talk a lot about managing the workloads of LeBron James and Joel Embiid this season, and the team is starting to go through the process now of figuring out back-to-back plans and mapping out the next month or so.

Adam Aaronson @adamaaronson.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Joel Embiid “looked great” today, Nick Nurse said, and was a full participant in everything the Sixers did. Nurse suggested Embiid is in a much better spot now than he has been at this time in recent years.

Nick Nurse doesn’t want to put a label on LeBron James’ role yet (or those of the Sixers’ other stars). He thinks they’ll be able to iron some of that out over the next few weeks.
