After 20 years growing the UK Games Expo into one of the largest tabletop gaming conventions in the world, founders Richard Denning and Tony Hyams are preparing for their eventual exit by bringing in AireCon co-founder Mark Cooke as operations director: boardgamewire.com/index.php/20...

It's officially autumn so time to announce: @nnesk.bsky.social and I are debuting #STARDATE at Thought Bubble festival! It's a 20-page comic book that's best described as Dating Reality TV On A Spaceship. Cheeky lil' preview coming soon!
A copy of STARDATE resting on my trusty fake plant display. It shows a young white red-haired woman in a blue dress, holding a rose in one hand, a martini glass with a little planet-topped stirrer in the other, and wearing a big, blue-eyed, confused expression. The backdrop is a sci-fi-ish window into outer space, divided into sections that each show a different creature in monochrome blue. The title is STARDATE in white and pink (with a little heart in the A), and our names at the top: Eran Aviram and Aviv Or

Explore the wonders of birds, and discover June 2026 releases from Asmodee North America
wericmartin.com
Return to Andor in Late 2026
▪️ On its Instagram page, KOSMOS has started revealing games due out in the second half of 2026, including German-language editions of Tag Team: Arthur's Legacy, Moustache, Panorama, Cascadia: Alpine Lakes, Cities: City Achievements and Theaters, and Flip 7: With a Vengeance. One of the two original titles announced so far is Die Legenden von Andor: Die Ewige Kälte – Das Licht der Dunkelklinge ("The Legends of Andor: The Eternal Frost – The Light of the Dark Blade"), an expansion for Michael Menzel's The Legends of Andor: The Eternal Frost that features new characters, new magical items, and two new legends featuring an ice giant and the eponymous Dunkelklinge. The other is Das Spiel der Vögel ("The Game of Birds"), a game based on _The Book of Birds_ , the third collaboration between artist Jackie Morris and writer Robert Macfarlane, with the previous two also being adapted as games: The Lost Words Card Game and The Lost Spells Card Game. In Morris' words: > The book took seven years to make, and centres around the seven wonders of birds, with seven species between each wonder. We had not intended it to take so long, but somehow from its conception it changed, grew, in size and content. Sometimes this is how books are. While the two previous games came from Robert Hyde, _Das Spiel der Vögel_ is the work of Michael Rieneck. At the start of a round, dice are rolled, with white dice granting advantages, black dice restrictions. You'll take birds cards from the game board into your hand for use as actions or placement in your display. Each bird features a wonder — nest, flight, feather, egg, beak, migration, or song — and ideally you can collect three cards of each wonder. Thames & Kosmos UK has already announced an English-language edition of _**Birds**_ — or _Birds Card Game?_ — but not the _Andor_ expansion. Thames & Kosmos in the U.S. has announced neither title. ▪️ In an April 21, 2026 Facebook post, Sébastien Dujardin of Pearl Games showed off a first look at **_Tempestia_**. No clues for now beyond this intriguing image.. ▪️ Asmodee North America has passed along its June 2026 release calendar, and continuing the trend I noted in an early April 2026 post, few of the items listed originate from asmodee studios. In brief: * June 5 brings five designs of Bicycle playing cards from U.S. Playing Card Co. and five Star Wars: Legions expansions from Atomic Mass Games. * June 12 has one Marvel: Crisis Protocol expansion from Atomic Mass and ten items from Maestro Media related to Eric M. Lang and Ken Gruhl's Clash of Clans: The Epic Raid, including the US$175 Collector's Edition. * June 19 has another four _Star Wars: Legion_ expansions; Joel and Rafael Escalante's Alto from Helvetiq (which I wrote about in January 2026); Cross the Line from Joe Barron, Brady Peterson, David Yakos, and Gray Matters Games; and Kristen Mott's Moana: Gifts from the Ocean from Maestro Media. * June 26 has only Edge Studio's Arkham Horror RPG: The Thompson Files. Out of twenty-nine items, only eleven come from within asmodee (via Edge and Atomic Mass), with none of them being standalone games. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Like what you read? If you use AI to design a board game, or do the artwork for your board game, I will never buy it, never play it, never review it, and I will side-eye your company for all future projects. If you brag about doing it, you're a weapons grade douche bag, that doesn't deserve a place in our industry.

Reposting with ALT because this kind of phenomenal disdain and disrespect from within the industry literally against two of their own titles and the designer who made them is important to recognize.
Ryan Dancey - Chief Operating Officer of Alderac Entertainment responding to:

Baffles me why people think AI should be included in any serious business when it's like the office four year old.

Ryan writes

Because three years ago, it was essentially nothing but a curiosity. Now it’s useful, but in limited cases. In a year or two it will be as useful as any new hire. A year or two after that, it will be used useful as an experienced employee. And any field. For a few dollars day in cost.

15 years ago the best humans could be any computer playing chess. 10 years ago a human checking the work of the best chest plan computer could be the best human. Today the best humans cannot beat a chess playing computer. This is what is happening with AI except the timeframe is months not years.I have zero reason to believe that AI couldn’t come up with tiny towns or flip seven or cubitos. I can prompt any of several AI‘s right now and get ideas for games as good as those. The gaming industry doesn’t exist because humans create otherwise unobtainable ideas it exists because many many previous games exist feed into the minds of designers who produce new variance of those themes. People then apply risk. Against those ideas to see if there’s a product market fit. Sometimes there is, and sometimes there’s not. In fact, much more often than not. Extremely occasionally quotes twice in my lifetime (D&D and magic the gathering) a human has produced an all new form of gaming entertainment. Those moments are so rare and incandescent that they echo across decades.

Game publishing isn’t an industry of unique special ideas. It’s an industry about execution, marketing, and attention to detail. All things AIs are great at.

Matt Leacock and Rob Daviau join forces once again
wericmartin.com
Forbidden Legacy to Debut at Gen Con 2026
Following the debut of **_Forbidden Island_** in 2010, designer Matt Leacock has taken travelers to the desert, sky, and jungle — and in 2026 he's joining forces with frequent design partner Rob Daviau (Pandemic Legacy, _Ziggurat_, and _Ticket to Ride Legacy: Legends of the West_) to take travelers somewhere new. U.S. publisher Gamewright will debut _**Forbidden Legacy**_ at Gen Con 2026, with a retail release in Q4 2026, and the game will retail for US$50. One of the elements connecting the _Forbidden_ titles is that how you escape from one title leads into your dire situation in the next. In _Forbidden Island_ , for example, you assemble elements to construct an airship, then it crashes in the desert to set off the challenge of _Forbidden Desert_. All of the games are playable independently, but the thread is there for those who want to follow along. In this case, _Forbidden Jungle_ ended with you escaping through a portal to an unknown location — and here you are on the cover of _Forbidden Legacy_ , popping out somewhere unknown. A production mock-up that's nearly final aside from the missing QR code _Forbidden Legacy_ consists of a seven-stage campaign, with each stage being replayable on its own and with the resolution of a stage introducing new elements as you move on to the next, thanks both to six episode boxes that are initially sealed in the box and a large _Chronicle_ box that you will open and tear apart. A production mock-up at Toy Fair 2026 The pages of the _Chronicle_ are quite thick, akin to children's board books, and that's because in some cases, you'll rip pages out of the book so that players can get their hands on info they'll need to know, such as actions available on a game turn. And here's one final spoiler near the end of episode 1. Expect much more along these lines...and along other lines...as you progress through the seven episodes. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Like what you read?
