Did you spot our research last month? 👀 Only 1 in 40 yoghurts with child-appealing packaging were low in sugar, exposing children to high levels of sugar and failing to give parents a clear choice. Catch up on the findings 👇 tinyurl.com/yc23t3h6
Quote tile, text reads: "Parents could reasonably expect products covered in cartoons and specifically marketed to children to be among the healthier options available, but as our findings show, this is often not the case. Some companies have shown reductions in sugar is possible, proving that reformulation can be achieved. However, progress remains inconsistent and far too slow because it relies largely on voluntary action. Government must introduce stronger measures to ensure all companies reduce sugar levels, and that child-appealing packaging are reserved for the best products out there. - Dr Kawther Hashem, Head of Research and Impact"

Yoghurts are popular amongst children, and a good source of calcium and vitamin D. But as our latest analysis shows, many yoghurts still contain excessive amount of sugars and are failing to deliver on children’s nutritional needs. 📝 Read more: tinyurl.com/yc23t3h6
Graphic containing photo of yoghurts and text: “We analysed the sugars content of children’s yoghurts... and despite some improvements, they are still not as healthy as they could - and should – be". Graphic of 40 yoghurts and 1 yoghurt circled. Text reads: "Only 1 in 40 yoghurts were low in total sugars. Despite the bright, child-appealing packaging that would suggest them a suitable option." Graphic of speech bubbles depicting companies with the highest average sugars (Nestle 10.8g, Lidl 9.4g, Aldi 9.0g) and lowest average sugars (Sainsbury’s 6.2g and The Collective 6.3g) yoghurts. Text reads: “Progress remains varied across food businesses. Some yoghurts contained x3 more sugars than others!” Text: “What needs to change? To protect children’s health, we must: Introduce mandatory reformulation policies to reduce sugars in foods, Support policies via transparent sales reporting and enforcement, Reserve child-appealing packaging for healthier products only.”
