#WildWalkPrompt #beak #humour Here is a slightly updated version of a poem from last February. It is a light, fun ballad written in a poetic form I call the Juniper Loop.

#SomethingEveryday #Poem One of my favourites, one of my early poems here from a #vss365 prompt. The poem is on the challenges of living with an unpredictable #ChronicIllness and appreciation for #Caregivers

#SomethingEveryday #Thunderbirds Sept 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada to acknowledge cultural genocide of Indigenous Peoples, honour survivors, and work to grow together with mutual respect. This is my offering.

#SomethingEveryday #RiceCrispyCakes #fail Early in the pandemic, I bought a “spring edition” of Rice Crispies that featured some green and blue crispies. Since all was snow and mud outdoors, I planned to boost our spirits by making them into cakes, shaped as flowers. I had never made them before.

Cool evenings close warm days the golden hour, hours long early autumn: summer's swan song The floods themselves washed away left the old crusty banks as new riverbed under-quilts the secret swing hangs still, over their musty damp There, join I upside-down rise - soar - crown fall - arc - fly

The evenings are cool now with the long golden hours of summer's swan song that is early autumn The floods that have washed themselves away made crusty old banks bow down into fresh lining for the riverbed still damp beneath the secret swing So, I, too ascend soar crown fall upside down all

Third response for how we "use" math every day. As my newly 18 year old son says: engineering = applied physics = applied math. Even if you don't remember, it's good to have What bears needed load? Why do bridges last so long? Answer: triangles! 😃

#SomethingEveryday #numbers #PythagoreanTheorem For the changing curve You need the hypotenuse Formula's input (There was no line tool, so excuse my badly drawn ones. The hypotenuse provides the diameter and then radius to calculate the new curve needed so the counter fit in the space.)

#SomethingEveryday #book Inspired by @jenthorne.bsky.social's poem, this is also a pre-Bluesky write where I challenged myself to create a poem using the titles of every book and magazine that were on my coffee table. References are listed in the comment.

#Re-lyricization #SelfCare ("Look Away" by Chicago) When you’re missing hours of sun Not ready for Autumn Look away, Baby, look away When leaves first turn gold and brown And have fallen to the ground Look away, Baby, look away But you love trails outside So I guess you have to see the waaaaay 😢

#PoetsOfDoom #local We are way too recent a population with lots of immigration to have much of a local dialect - or else I'm too immersed in it to recognize! Most of it centres on the context of our climate. Second pic is the translation.

"and mistook its coldness for a song" I relate to the whole poem (although my boots retain uncertain hope) and especially the last line. Here's one I wrote on the same theme:

When a glacier just drops a massive pink rock in a random spot. Pink rock. With smaller pink rocks embedded in the pink conglomerate rock. Truth is stranger than fiction, and nature blows my mind!

We call the pink flowering plant "Fireweed" because it is one of the early pioneer plants to grow in an alpine burn area, as you can see here. Ironically, the sky is hazy with wildfire smoke.

Here, for @sonnetsmith.bsky.social is my #PoetsOfDoom diamond-series-poem song-adaptation of "Diamonds in the Soles of Her Shoes" by Paul Simon. For some reason, I felt the need to visually arrange it like a wind chime/ sun-catcher thingy. I also sing it (badly!) in the comments.

This #SongParody was inspired by a friend who was listening to "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" famously sung by Gayla Peevey, and wondered if a hippopotamus would ever want her for Christmas. I edited it slightly in honour of our #PoetsOfDoom host @daveashleypoet.bsky.social

#PoetsOfDoom #SongParodies This one I made five or so years ago for my kids to sing. I don't know why I chose this song, as it's ultimately sad and I felt that I had to roughly follow it. Parody of "Superman's Song" by the Crash Test Dummies.

#PoetsOfDoom #SongParody @daveashleypoet.bsky.social you beautiful prompt giver, song parodies are MY MAIN THING! I don't know if my kids will be relieved that I have another outlet, or terrified that you are encouraging me! Sung many a morning to the chorus of "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons:
