I don't get it. Not the price part. I mean the part where hourly wage doesn't seem to matter. These are clearly mass produced, machine made, but if I were to hand knit it, that amount of bulky yarn costs quite a bit and it takes hours and hours to make. Isn't a handmade object worth an hourly wage?

That is interesting. Plain weave examples have been found and I know I'd rather wear a cloth fabric next to skin than tanned leather so I can't imagine they didn't wear it, but yeah, record of it and what seem very scarce. Oral traditions have not been handled well.

They were weaving other plant fibers for thousands of years, as well as weaving animal fibers, baskets, mats and other things, not just cloth fabric. Looms and fabrics don't usually hold up well. Backstrap looms were used with cotton in South America and animal wool was used in the northern tribes.

WIP 🧶Look At My Holes sweater in a 50/50 cotton linen blend Bomull-lin by Drops in black. I modified James N Watts' pattern and did an I-cord neckline instead of ribbing and also increased the length by 2.5 repeats and am adding long sleeves with ribbed cuffs. I'm waiting for one more ball of yarn.
