Not a racist rant though. Not even a rant really.

Support for separatism in Alberta is about the same as for secession in Texas (although they are quiet about it). A key difference is that modern tech allows small groups to have a very loud voice. They will be surprised and angry when results achieved do not reflect the volume they generated.

Last night was one of contrasts. It started with ordering from the senior's menu for the first time, followed by a few hours in a dingy club listening to some great music with a crowd mostly 40 years younger. #Surfhat

You live in a town of 700 people. By all means, shop by car, because certainly a bike wouldn't do for that trip to Costco, but kindly don't pretend that your circumstances represent the majority.

No thanks. I buy every couple of days because the food is fresher that way. I could donit by bus easily, but the 12 minute bike ride each way is easy and good for me.

Fun fact. The U.S Navy calls their pilots... The ones who fly off aircraft carriers... aviators, because they already had Pilots.

The ultra-rich speed lots of money to influence elections, but can't directly buy votes. Ultimately enough Americans bought what they were selling.

I appreciate the sentiment, but it is worth remembering that the locks at Sault Ste Marie between Lake Superior and the rest of the Great Lakes are all on the American side.

Republicans also won the House and the Senate, despite how many people disapprove. Clearly enough Americans support his party and policies.

American acceptance of their Head of State being an on-line troll is part of the problem.

I've live with universal coverage & endorse this message. Current estimates are that 68,000 Americans die every year because they don't have insurance & can't afford healthcare... that's one every 8 minutes. Hell of a price to pay to avoid an imaginary threat.

Yup. As someone who spent years doing risk assessments, I know that helmets are a last line of defence to try to limit the severity of consequences. They don't address causes and prevention like infrastructure does. If you ever really NEED your helmet, you're already having a bad day

So you wouldn't consider a private jet to be a luxury either then, because all it is is the same ability to travel at will, but with a higher price tag. We treat cars as a necessity because we've structured society to make them a necessity, and we're so immersed in the system that it's hard to see

I'm Canadian but my maternal grandfather was American, from a New Engla d family, with an uncommon surname. A few years after the movie came out I was astonished, and pretty pleased, to find that name on the memorial to the 20th Maine at Little Round Top

@thewaroncars.bsky.social ... There's clear evidence the High School kids in my area want to ride to school. There's equally clear evidence the school needs more bike racks, and to think about where they go. (The ones on the opposite side of the school are full.)

I can live without jets. The PC-21 matches the Tutor across most parameters and is better than it in some areas. And it will do it for a quarter of the cost of getting and operating jets.

Alberta, A Poem Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And I asked "should we take route 1, or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not we should take route 1 or route 2?"

We had our long weekend last weekend... when Canadians mentally switch to summer. It was a beautiful weekend. Hot even. There's a frost warning tonight.

They say culture eats strategy for breakfast. I've seen it before, but I am not sure I have seen as comprehensive example as I saw today. The next few weeks will be "interesting". (I am part of the culture, but no, not my strategy. Well intended and some merit. Terrible implementation.)

Yup. We're not inclined to help at the moment. I liked, and used to purchase a fair bit of wine from California, but not any more.

It does seem to be some sort of undeniable urge. I've begun to suspect there is a legal requirement tied to Ottawa residency. I was able to redirect my urges to trilliums while on a bike ride yesterday

I'm Canadian. The standard mat leave here is a year. My wife's employer generously offered her additional time, so she was home for a total of three and half years with each of our kids. (Not paid, but guaranteed her job when she went back.)

Funny. I was just reading an anecdote about unsigned intersections in Mexico City, where "higher status" cars do go first, IF YOU MAKE EYE CONTACT. If you don't, it becomes a question of who flinches first, so people in beat up cars tend to avoid eye contact.

They could put it back on the shelves & it still wouldn't sell. I love California wines, and have bought a lot of them over the years. Not any more. There are too many alternatives, both from inside Canada & all over the world for me to support products from a hostile nation. I am far from alone

It's a fantastic film. Glad you got to see it. Did you realize the kid they introduced as "Steve" was Stephen Sondheim, and Elizabeth's date George who wanted to "get into movies" was George Roy Hill, director of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"?

It does seem that, all too often, we are presented with a choice involving the lesser of two evils, as if those are the only options. The examples seem endless. The one you've mentioned is pretty clear. I'm waiting to see if the Hungarian election is another.

My mechanic, who specializes in Volvos, is a bit scathing about the newer ones. I got the impression he thought I was pushing my luck a bit with the 2011 (which was during the Ford ownership era).
