#looptober, day 18: a short one today. It started with a melody generated by putting a drum loop through a guitar-synth effect, and seems to want to move towards some kind of manic party music:

@daveybot In 18th-century Scotland, pineapple-themed motifs in architecture and furnishings would have been the equivalent of diamond-iced gold lettering on gangsta-rap album covers: a very unsubtle brag about one’s (claimed) financial means

There is a large-scale impersonation attack happening on Mastodon. People are registering typos of real people on mastodon.social and then following people who the real people follow. I’ve gotten two different ones today.

The term "single use software" currently lives rent free in my head. People use LLMs to create software specific for their needs. But neither can other people use it (hardcoded variables, no rights management, too specific), nor do they use it again (too […] [Original post on social.luca.run]

Am on a bus in Stockholm. There appears to be a passenger playing music out of their phone speaker. Surprisingly, the music isn’t some kind of teenage-bro spatial-dominance weapon but something that sounds a lot like Philip Glass. Which at least is something.

This makes sense for recurring toponym prefixes (trailing ones, like “ville” and “burg”, can be autocompleted). Wales and Scotland could probably add “Aber” as well, and historically western-Christian countries could do with ones for the local variants of “Saint”.

No details about where Muji will be expanding in Europe, but maybe it’ll finally be possible to buy their large modular plastic drawers in Sweden again (they’re too big to post, don’t flat-pack, and no-one sells them in Sweden since the Muji concessions at Åhléns ended a few years ago).

Political cartoon. Volodomyr Zelensky wearing a suit of armor is holding up a shield labelled "Ukraine". Many arrows are hitting the shield. Meanwhile, behind the shield, Zelensky is being stabbed in the back by many knives. In the bottom right corner of the cartoon is a text box that reads, "When America has your back"

I approve of this method of proving humanity. Much better than asking me to tick all the boxes containing buses or whatever. (Seen at a UK National Archives survey)
A question asking the user to prove that they are a human by answering the question, "Which of the following best describes your involvement in creating the Domesday Book in the year 1086? I was ..."

There are several options, including "William the conqueror and commissioned the Domesday book"
