What's the most extreme lie you've ever told in a job interview? Mine is "I'm a people person."

I am familiar with the origin of the word! I don't like it! I have a *personal* revulsion to how it sounds and appears, and I have a *technical* objection about its utility. If other people use it, fine. *I* don't like it, *I* think its utility is more limited than more commonly used words.

I said I don't like the term and I don't think its less ambiguous or more impactful than collaborator, but people who use it don't need to justify themselves to me.

Danielle Smith was recorded having a friendly discussion with Ben Shapiro, who has previously said that "we can annex [Canada] and then just call it an outlying territory or something like Puerto Rico, but of the North." www.nationalobserver.com/2025/03/27/n...

Virgin/Chad meme. Virgin Tim Hortons: American, named after famous drunk driver, parent company supports the IDF, no root beer, does not have burger family, Brazilian (!?) Chad A&W: root beer, onion rings, doesn't give free food to IDF, family of burgers, wholly Canadian owned and operated, superior fast food burger

It's not a Canadian-owned company anymore and even if it were, we're not obliged to pretend bad things are good just because they're Canadian.

People always want to talk about how a single sour patch kid would kill a pilgrim but that's ancient history. I do believe that a single box of Kraft Dinner would kill King Charles right fucking now.

Stanley is probably right (and within his rights) to leave and the U of T has good reason to hire him. That doesn't mean people who see an already narrow door narrowing further have to clap for him.

I haven't seen anyone "dunking" on him (maybe there are) but what I have seen is people pointing out that it's already extremely difficult for Canadian academics to get positions and it's frustrating to think that as Cdn institutions start snapping up fleeing US academics, it will become even harder

Singh's popularity is dismal, the party’s popularity has crashed so hard they may be reduced to a handful of seats, it's incredibly clear that people are not happy with their performance or their direction, and yet!!!

People are understandably focused on the CPC's sharp decline in popularity but there's an equally interesting story in the apparent total collapse of the NDP. It is WILD that there doesn't seem to be any push from the party to turf Singh, who is pretty obviously unable to meet this moment.

50 years ago the rural population in Saskatchewan was significantly higher and yet the province was profoundly less conservative. So we have evidence RIGHT HERE that rural communities are not inherently conservative. So why do we just accept that narrative?
3163
saskatchewan potato utility (redux) @acabirlios.bsky.social · 24/03/2025
Aren't these experts tired of the same boring, inaccurate narratives for why the province is how it is? What does having a rural population have to do with anything anyway? Why do we assume rural populations are *inherently* conservative instead of wondering *why* they're conservative?

saskatchewan potato utility (redux) @acabirlios.bsky.social · 24/03/2025
THIS ISN'T FUCKING TRUE. Nearly SEVENTY PERCENT of people in Saskatchewan live in urban areas. That's a lower percentage than most provinces (except Manitoba, which does not get this same treatment, despite having very similar demographics as SK) but it's still an overwhelming majority!
