I am running a study on how computer vision researchers perceive dual-use risks of the field. If you work in CV, and would like to help us, the survey takes less than 3min. Reply or DM me for the link. You will be helping us a lot! Reposts are much appreciated 🙏

Meet 𝚆𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎-𝙾𝙿𝙳: a simple strategy to generate synthetic data and tasks for MLLM on-policy self-distillation to improve visual perception. Counting is a super useful skill to have and giving the teacher hints about where to look makes this work.

We had X NeurIPS 2026 submissions and Y of them passed, X-Y were rejected. The actual counts are irrelevant, as every Y was appreciated and each and every X-Y hurt. These were the last ones where coding was done 100% by humans 💪. Also writing btw, but we continue to do all our writing ourselves.

Unclear. I think it’s a mix of tackling doomerismand anti data center reactions with ownership of the technology (we push it, we name it, we own it) 🤷‍♂️

We were in Barcelona for the Summer School on Autonomous Driving! 🚗 The event explored how AI can support safer, smarter mobility in complex real-world environments. It was great to see so much curiosity, technical exchange and energy in Barcelona. 🤝

I tried to live-tweet as much as possible from the talks. For some, I had to multi-task with other duties and I did not get to do the coverage. But every single talk was top notch without exceptions. Kudos to our fantastic speakers! #ssad2026

🚗 SSAD 2026 is done! Great talks, two packed poster sessions, and an incredible audience that kept asking questions well after the session should have ended. Thank you to our speakers, our sponsors, and the 72 people who made it what it was. We had a blast! #ssad2026

Public accountability is lacking: unclear what info was given to authorities for FSD clearance in NL. Then e2e limits accountability: now e can benchmark planning which needs 100M+ kms to be statistically significant #ssad2026

VLAs do not generalize: to new cameras, chain of thought explanations do not reflect the internal cause of the action #ssad2026

Diffusion does not generalize: at best synthetic data on point clouds leads to a boost of few percentage points #ssad2026

On with pessimism: public dataset are insufficient, open loop does not generalize, novel view synthesis does not generalize (on public dataset), end-to-end needs a babysitter #ssad2026

Andrei Bursuc @abursuc.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Let’s go to the pessimistic view: accidents on road, cameras are not enough, scaling is limited (under non-diverse data) #ssad2026

Andrei Bursuc @abursuc.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
We start seeing explainability methods, encouraging scaling laws, extension of AD worldwide and Europe. This indeed the optimistic view :) #ssad2026
