Do any of my followers work in or know someone who works in MKUH? Nothing sinister, just want a chat (off the record). Thank you!

Today is a big day for thousands of doctors starting new roles across the UK. Remember: you don't have to know everything on day one. Ask questions, be kind to yourself, look after each other, and don't forget how far you've already come. Read our Tips for New Doctors article over on substack

🚨Progress klaxon!🚨Just booked my colonoscopy. Was asked if I was breastfeeding (I said yes) so now a nurse is going to call to talk about it and the bowel prep. This is so much better than 5 years ago when I was told to just stop feeding for 48 hours. #bowelcancer #colonoscopy #breastfeeding #cancer

I would say, as someone who received an emergency c-section, I have never seen the NHS move with such speed and efficiency. It gave me a new found respect for it and everyone involved. The after care on the maternity ward? Not so much #nhs #maternitycare #medsky www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The shift marks a significant rise over the last five years, but experts say there is no single, clear explanation for the increase.

"some have told the BBC they are concerned a culture of fear in maternity units and among pregnant women is driving up the number of procedures." I don't understand this since the rise is in emergency c-sections so it's not the preganant women asking for them?! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... #medsky

I was googling because friends were discussing it's use for cancer. I was feeling very cynical but when I read that overview I realised that if I'd read it in the midst of chemo awfulness I probably would have wanted to try it.

I agree with all of these. I also find that I want so much for the children to be happy (for want of a better word) that it is much more emotionally tiring than work (which I really care about but the emotional investment is different)

The baby didn't sleep well last night. Being tired makes me a bit weepy (a sad song will set me off!) How do doctors with young children do it - working on little sleep and with nights/on calls thrown in. If you have any advice please get in touch for an article arimmer@bmj.com

Voting in the BMA ballot for SAS doctor industrial action, and voting "yes". In all of the previous rounds of IA, SAS doctors have covered for resident doctors, we have covered for consultants, and we have kept the service safe. Our "reward" for this is that we have been forgotten.

On @lbc.co.uk this morning @nickferrarilbc.bsky.social was talking about getting a diagnosis via the NHS app. A year ago I was traumatised to learn I have cancer by seeing notes sent to my GP. No one to talk to, no one to explain the results to me and a 2 week wait before I got the news in clinic

One of my many middle of the night thoughts: as a lay person, if there was a medical emergency I would call for a doctor and then breathe a sigh of relief when they arrived. What's it like being the person called? When everyone else is exhaling because you’re there, you need to step up. #medsky
