with any excess going compulsorily to e.g. charity. You could add in severe penalties for cheating, like removing the initial £1m. Doing it that way could hopefully mean that vast accumulations of wealth would be broken up & distributed more widely, to the benefit of all of society.

There little doubt that IHT needs reformed, but this would disproportionally benefit London & the SE (again). No surprise there. If we must have IHT, why not put it on the inheritor, a limit on what any individual can inherit during their lifetime. Say generously £1m each, & that's it, no more,

4 years is a long time. Probably be quicker to abandon the Rest & Be Thankful altogether, build a new road in a tunnel under the The Brack & Ben Donnich to Monevechadan or beyond, then rejoin the A83 at Cairndow. A normal independent country in control of it's own money would approach it like that.

It doesn't matter though. If they win in England & form a government, what we want or don't want up here makes not one jot of difference. They'll do it to us anyway.

It's inconceivable that when preparing to make this public they didn't think, 'this is going to look awful', but went ahead anyway. It gives a stark insight into how little regard they have for Scotland.

It’s all part of the grand British assimilation plan. They’ve tried before, they’ll fail again. The harder they try the more support to escape this nonsense will rise.

The whole thing reminds me of a time decades ago when I'd discovered & read Bill Mollison's Permaculture & booked myself on a design course deep in the West Country. The entire time was taken up with 'people care', meditation, dances dedicated to trees, thought mapping, and other assorted bollox.

Just saying: Grangemouth Refinery spent decades keeping Scotland moving. Diesel was 24% of its output, supplying 65% of Scottish fuel. Then April 2025 hit. The UK Labour Government sat on its hands and let Scotland’s only crude refinery die. A catastrophic failure of energy security.

It should be a simple thing that any country that shoots first, or any other that aids or abets them, has insta sanctions applied. E.g. Loss of UN voting or forfeiting Sec Council membership. Plus an instant bans from all international sport, & any other competitions, until they stop shooting.

It's amazing really that they're not only playing catchup with a government hobbled by devolution, but feel they need to. Imagine the catchup they'd need to attempt after independence and the full powers of government. Scottish independence really could change England for the better.

If the 'UK' still exists & rejoins, they're going to have to work out how they'll manage the economic hit of the rush of folk leaving/escaping this mental little island once the freedom of movement barriers are removed. That might even start prior, just with the merest hint of a rejoining timeline.

But, even if the UK could somehow reach that, it would ultimately fail both structurally & financially, because 1 perfidious nation would never truly accept it & would always work to find an edge to undermine it. And why would it be needed at all if members of the EU. Best we all go our own ways.

The only possible future for a continuing 'UK' would be for it to be truly voluntary, with *4* totally independent governments, agreed financial contributions, along with EU membership. There's no future for 1 of the 4 nations continuing to outvote, control, & asset strip the other 3. None.

You know that saying about how the way they treat asylum seekers is the way they’d treat everyone else if they thought they could get away with it? Well,
The Tories said the reduced subsistence allowance would be loaded onto pre-paid card that would not allow cash withdrawals, and would "prevent spending" on alcohol, cigarettes, or gambling.
The party is yet to detail how its proposal would work, but shadow welfare secretary Helen Whately said it would be "a version" of the pre-paid Aspen card issued to asylum seekers living in government-funded accommodation.
These cards cannot be used to make contactless, telephone or internet payments, whilst asylum seekers whose applications have failed cannot withdraw cash.
