Talk about a book hangover! When I finished @freyamarske.bsky.social brilliant Bodies of Magic, I went straight back to the beginning and read it again so I could catch every detail I'd missed. And then I did it *again.* I'm already missing those characters! us.macmillan.com/books/978125...

Jane Austen used 'however' at the beginning of a sentence, and so can you.

A great pleasure to follow along! It's refreshing to see how the book looks to new eyes that don't know exactly what's coming next. And you made me think about some things in a new way!

I don't have any art to share, but I adore this brilliant picture, which is now my mental picture of Cerridwen, the blue and bronze dragon in my series Fitzwilliam Darcy, Mage. Beautiful work!

I’m so embarrassed that I started this book like, “UGH a canon text, let’s see what’s the fuss,” and now I’m quietly weeping with joy to myself and filled with goodwill and optimism toward humanity and its capacity to love. How dare you, Jane Austen!!!

Thanks for the explanation. I did hear about the murder, but tI assumed she was talking about writing. I'd actually been planning to put Nine Ladies in my then WIP, but took it out when Heather's book came out.

And guess what? Now when I read many indie books, I end up skimming or jumping to the end because they haven't cut the scenes that don't move the story forward. When writing well means losing money, it's no surprise.

I agree totally with your points about AI. Another problem is KU. Paying authors by the page read means $$ if you *don't* tighten your story by editing. I cut ~30K words/book when I write, and I'm told I'm throwing money away, that people will skim those scenes if they're bored, and I'll get paid.

Just migrated to @eurosky.social. It was simple, and their instructions were great. It took me about ten minutes, and half of that was convincing my password manager to delete my old sign-in. Nice to know my data's hosted in Europe now.

If you don’t stop in mid-sentence to check a thing and then three hours later you’ve learned the entire history of canned food but not finished the sentence, why even be a writer?!

So, you'll provide stolen books if that's what the libraries ask for. Except that AI stole the books for you and pretended they're original. You know better. Don't fence stolen goods.

I appreciate @sfwa.org's board 's apology, but I'd like some transparency. Who was involved & what were they were thinking? They made an opaque decision to support people who stole from their members. If I'm going to trust them to defend my work, I need to know what went wrong this time. #NoGenAI

How can I believe @sfwa.org will stand up for its writer members when it's willing to give Nebulas to people who plagiarize from us? If you do this, you're no longer a writer's association - and I for one won't be renewing my membership. Please rethink this, @sfwa.org.

Abigail Reynolds @abigailreynolds.net · 19/12/2025
I really hope you reconsider this. SFWA is a writers association, not an LLM association. This is completely unacceptable in an organization that is supposed to support writers, not the tools that plagiarize from them. You're going to lose a ton of members over this, including me.
