It’s a full @injusticewatch.org newsletter today with news updates, a job posting and my recommendation of a good book about high school basketball and life in general, “Brothers on Three” by @abestreep.bsky.social www.injusticewatch.org/subscribe/
My book recommendation: I’m always in the market for sports writing sensitive enough to tell deep stories about hope, struggle, success, and loss. The 2021 book “Brothers on Three: A True Story of Family, Resistance, and Hope on a Reservation in Montana” by Abe Streep does this insightfully, using high school basketball as the thread running through life on and around the Flathead Indian Reservation. Streep follows the Arlee Warriors as they face the pressure to win, reckon with their futures, and take on a sometimes-uncomfortable role as spokesmen trying to stop the suicides that plague their community. It’s a humane story that communicates the bittersweet truth of sports success and failure — you win or you lose, and then you live the rest of your life.
