Precipitation extremes in 2025
Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, Published online: 26 May 2026; doi:10.1038/s43017-026-00794-yExtreme rainfall events in 2025 were globally associated with exceptional short-duration intensities consistent with hydrological intensification in a warming climate. A total of 46 events were considered, including 18 tropical cyclones and 10 convective storms, producing widespread flooding, economic losses and substantial societal impacts.

Floods in 2025
Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, Published online: 23 April 2026; doi:10.1038/s43017-026-00779-x2025 featured geographically concentrated flood anomalies shaped by shifting large-scale atmospheric circulation and ocean–atmosphere variability, with antecedent hydrologic conditions and topography amplifying impacts in several regions. The year ranked in the lower tier of the past two decades for flood exposure, totalling over US$ 28 billion in damages and 4,200 flood-related fatalities globally.

How rainfall extremes affect the agronomic & environmental performances of annual cropping systems? This is the question we tackle in our long-term experiment University of Zimbabwe @cirad.bsky.social started in 2022 (4th cropping season ongoing) combining field measurements & soil-crop modeling
