I believe the Afghans, Persians and Turks all refer to it as Qaymak, but the Turks say it with a softer ‘k’. I think the Lebanese call it ‘ashta’. Good luck with your search :-)

You should be able to find fresh clotted cream in Afghan, Persian and Turkish corner stores or dessert shops, as well as Lebanese bakeries. Happy hunting!

Love this idea! It would be great if the colour of the green support buttons could be customised per account. People would still know that a solid block-colour button means special supported link.

war ever, and a community of people who've been in Australia for almost 200 years but we still have zero engagement and understanding of Afghans? And you don't even notice. Why? Because your causes and champions reek of privilege. We see it. Smell it. From the bottom, everything is clear. #auspol

25 years on from the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and where are the afghan voices in the Australian media or arts landscape? Where are the plays, novels, stories, op-eds? Australia's longest invasion and occupation (second to that of Aboriginal Australia, still ongoing), our longest

We wouldn’t know it from the reporting, but most of these ‘teenagers’ are children. According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, anyone under the age of 18 is a child. Be they assaulted or murdered by police or the ADF, these are children. But Blak and brown kids don’t get to be kids.

Being both an uncle and a casual teacher (supply / sub.) means that every now and then you get to ask your niece if she has school the next day and then laugh in her face when you reveal that you don't. Last night, I told her I'll be enjoying chocolate croissants (her fav) while she'll be in class 👹

“True justice requires the West to look into the mirror, acknowledge the generational trauma it inflicted, end its punitive sanctions, and allow these liberated nations the space to breathe, rebuild and determine their own destinies.” Brilliant piece by Moazzam Begg, former Guantanamo Bay prisoner.

The design changes look great! I didn't realise it until I saw this, but the current system can be quite stressful if a post blows up or gets heavy engagement. This one is beautiful and breezy. Also, that section up the top may be a great space to include a dedicated @standard.site section

I loved the comic and have been waiting for it to come out on streaming, but are you telling me they moved away from Bilquis Evelyn's atmospheric and ethereal art (one of that main reasons I picked it up in the first place) out of... laziness? That would be deeply disappointing

Knowing that there’d be ‘racial qualifiers’ had the young men a) come from other parts of Sydney and b) belonged to non-white communities is surprisingly enraging.

Spider-man BND was good fun and my favourite of the Tom Holland series. I can’t help but notice that the villain (!!!) will have had more screen time going into their next MCU film than Doctor Doom will have had by the time he features in Doomsday. This does not spark joy. #SpidermanBrandNewDay

Loved it. Classic fantasy, beautiful prose, and a badass magic system. The last 100 pages had me staying up late, reading the night away like I used to when I was a kid. Currently looking to buy books 2 and 3, but want the lovely original covers. Thank you @garthnix.bsky.social!

What kind of dark wizardry is this? My eyes see a skull in a black cloak, but my mind registers it as “handsome”. How can a skeleton be handsome? And why am I reading it as male? It’s a skull. In a black cloak. What the. Some real magic at play here! (Beautiful work)

Hold onto that acceptance and never let it go. It might take some time finding the right therapist, but letting your realisation and acceptance guide you into becoming a person unencumbered by whatever is weighing you down is, perhaps, one of the best things you can do in your life. You can do it 💪🏼

Such a let down. However, I do love it when the opposite happens, where I read a novel for the story alone, but I’m met with surprisingly elevated and poetic prose. Ps. Generally speaking, I believe the Auslit industry is suffering from an overly fluid definition of the term ‘literary merit’.

Fascinating. Meanwhile I've taught at a Muslim school in Sydney, where they've had an old, retired soldier come in to speak about WW1 and Australia's military engagements (already a contentious topic for these kids), on behalf of the ADF, with this sticker on his laptop, to a group of CALD students:

You forget Husic and his people have experienced genocide first-hand in Bosnia. He's demonstrating what 'never again' should actually look like. Fatima Payman also moved alone at one point. Eventually that emboldened Husic. Way leads to way, the good and the bad. Every action matters.

A quarter of the way through Sabriel by Garth Nix and I'm really enjoying it. It's got that classic fantasy feel, and the prose appears simple but is elevated and poetic. The magic and necromancy is surprisingly beautiful. Teen-me would've loved it, but adult-me is enjoying it just as much.

'Rat Daniels' by Alex Sawyer is a solid debut, raw and sincere like the characters it brings to life. A tender exploration of the beautiful beast that is male friendship, it navigates the currents of brotherhood – light and dark – with confronting vulnerability. Great work @alexsawyer.bsky.social

Finished Hill House. Jackson’s mastery of horror is delightful, her protagonist tragic. Nell’s slow descent into madness and loosening grip on reality is just as terrifying as scenes of explicit, ghostly horror. Her loneliness echoes and aches; haunting and heartbreaking like Hill House itself.

Oooh I noticed his sword in the intro song! One of the things I love about this show is the harmony of the 'character design language', if that's a thing? Every time we see something new, it fits perfectly into the world – that triangular, straight-edged kryptonian aesthetic. Just lovely man

It was a terrible idea to read ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ at midnight, while staying by myself in a cabin in the Blue Mountains. The wind is howling, the house is creaking and my nerves are completely on edge. I’m going to watch children’s cartoons to calm myself down. Everything feels alive.

The writing in the second season is good. It manages to stay true to the heart of the original series, while making changes that allow it to be more character focussed. That results in a grounded, stronger story and more nuanced character arcs. Zuko’s arc alone is a masterclass in adaptation.
