Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 09/08/2026Spider-man BND was good fun and my favourite of the Tom Holland series. I can’t help but notice that the villain (!!!) will have had more screen time going into their next MCU film than Doctor Doom will have had by the time he features in Doomsday. This does not spark joy. #SpidermanBrandNewDay 000
Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 06/08/2026Loved it. Classic fantasy, beautiful prose, and a badass magic system. The last 100 pages had me staying up late, reading the night away like I used to when I was a kid. Currently looking to buy books 2 and 3, but want the lovely original covers. Thank you @garthnix.bsky.social! 010
Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 27/07/2026A quarter of the way through Sabriel by Garth Nix and I'm really enjoying it. It's got that classic fantasy feel, and the prose appears simple but is elevated and poetic. The magic and necromancy is surprisingly beautiful. Teen-me would've loved it, but adult-me is enjoying it just as much. 000

Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 13/07/2026'Rat Daniels' by Alex Sawyer is a solid debut, raw and sincere like the characters it brings to life. A tender exploration of the beautiful beast that is male friendship, it navigates the currents of brotherhood – light and dark – with confronting vulnerability. Great work @alexsawyer.bsky.social 011
Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 05/07/2026Finished Hill House. Jackson’s mastery of horror is delightful, her protagonist tragic. Nell’s slow descent into madness and loosening grip on reality is just as terrifying as scenes of explicit, ghostly horror. Her loneliness echoes and aches; haunting and heartbreaking like Hill House itself. 010

Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 01/07/2026It was a terrible idea to read ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ at midnight, while staying by myself in a cabin in the Blue Mountains. The wind is howling, the house is creaking and my nerves are completely on edge. I’m going to watch children’s cartoons to calm myself down. Everything feels alive. 010
Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 29/06/2026The writing in the second season is good. It manages to stay true to the heart of the original series, while making changes that allow it to be more character focussed. That results in a grounded, stronger story and more nuanced character arcs. Zuko’s arc alone is a masterclass in adaptation. 000

Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 28/01/2026This should have all Australians up in arms. Even with 'updated definitions' of terrorism, the term is almost never applied to white violence. Which is bizarre considering White Australians were, and still are, the first 'terrorists' of this land. 03018

Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 22/01/2026The River Has Roots is just beautiful. Amal’s writing is sharp and wonderfully lyrical, her voice wistful and witty. Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 11/01/2026Re Frankenstein (2025) – while the visuals and costuming were beautiful, the plot changes completely undermined the monster’s motivations, life experiences and overall arc, resulting in a lacklustre third act that leaves you wanting. Even the ‘touching’ conclusion felt unearned and jarring. 010
Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 04/01/2026Really enjoyed ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ by @rianjohnson.bsky.social. That call scene where Blanc and the priest are speaking to the lady from the construction company was masterful storytelling. The way it shifted from comical to deeply vulnerable in an instant. Such a tender, human moment. Very powerful. 010

Aboubakr Daqīq @abbkrdqq.ink · 14/12/2025The framing in this article is absolutely abhorrent and rooted in racist, gendered stereotypes about Afghans. To portray Afghan men as the enablers of the Taliban ("Afghan men simply rolled over") and afghan boys as a "future generation of jihadis" is white feminism at its most dangerous. [1/2] 140
