So what did I learn over the last week? 1/ Most of the web traffic is bots. 2/ Good filtering and firewalls are insanely important. 3/ Cloudflare is an incredibly powerful service, even for free. 4/ PHP, NGINX & Redis config files. 5/ Make sure you click the button allowing you to downsize

With that, I've enabled filtering for a lot of that bot traffic and in the last 2 hours, I've mitigated 8,000 hits from bots. No wonder the web server was crying for help. But hey, I learnt a lot and now we have good filtering from Cloudflare.

The last week has been incredibly enlightening with regards to website maintenance and I've learnt a heck of a lot. Especially about what kind of web traffic we're facing. It's bots, like a LOT of bots. I now have access and understand a lot more of our logs now.

Some background, I think there might be a memory leak somewhere that was causing crashing of the apache2 service. This has been fixed. But now curl is timing out with massive lag and I have no idea what's causing it. I migrated the host and normally that works, not this time so I'm asking for help.

Don't you just love it when a brand new (less than a week old) hard drive fails. Those things are expensive as hell now. At least it's under warranty but still, now I need to send it back. At least the array was running in RAID.

Thank you for the kind words. I do have a newsletter that goes out weekly with a news roundup. I also love submissions from the community. Both for news and services for the directory. I can't keep up with everything on my own and do miss things so I do rely on those submissions.

This group is well known, they did a speakers corner where one of their members wished that a trans woman would die. 6 months planning, 16 people showed up, inc online. A month later the local city where that was happened did a trans flag raising. 300 people showed up, with only a weeks planning
