Yale’s Office of Public Affairs banned reporters from Yale’s campus today. It’s corroborated by Francie Diep in her story for the @chronicle.com. This was an attempt to squelch press coverage today of the rally protesting Yale’s attacks on freedom of expression, their pending deal with Trump. 1/

The legal, media, and academic institutions capitulating to an authoritarian ordering payments for favorable treatment are damning themselves to irrelevance. They are destroying their institutions. They will be — and should be — shunned for failing in their most basic purposes for existing.

Radical hope.
Quote in graphic from "Degrowth and decolonization in academia" by Racimo et al. "Despite their enmeshing in systems that generate oppression and scarcity, academic institutions have also been—and in some cases still are—critical sites of transformation. They are environments that can nourish counter-hegemonic ways of thinking and acting, which challenge the status quo. Therefore, universities can also play pivotal roles in the construction of ecologically sustainable, socially just, and decolonial worlds (Bhambra et al., 2018; Stephens, 2024)."

That's the only way to play this. The only form of resistance that can work to this kind of authoritarian power-grab is resistance where universities all refuse to voluntarily give up autonomy over what they teach, write, and allow their students and faculty to say. Then fight in court, one by one.
