Ironically the shutdowns temporarily brought dramatic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. And the $600/week Unemployment boost gave many in the working class the most humane existence they'd ever experienced. Covid was an historic opportunity to demand green social democracy that the left wasted

Social Security is a Problem of Income Distribution, Not Demographics
Social Security's financing problem stems more from wage inequality and income distribution than demographics, making policy, not aging, the real issue.

From economics and sociology to theology, psychology, and cultural studies, many of Latin America's most influential intellectual movements emerged from attempts to explain the region's persistent poverty, inequality, and political instability.

The use of districting, electoral engineering, and institutional design to entrench minority rule or preserve elite power has many historical precedents. What is newer in the modern United States is the technological sophistication, legal sophistry, and data precision involved.

Historians call the early 20th-century Court the “Lochner era” after Lochner v. New York (1905), which struck down labor laws as violations of “freedom of contract.” Some see echoes in the Roberts Court. A look at their respective dangers to the working class is useful, even if not foolproof.

Warning: NOT a pro Maga thread. This is an assessment of one factor contributing to why Democrats lack majorities in all 3 branches of government and are in need of coordinated long-term strategies if they are to neutralize Maga. Since 1964, Republicans have pursued youth-to-leadership pipelines.

Aaron Wells @aaronwells.bsky.social · 04/10/2025
You are misinterpreting the post. This is not about what policies are better, which is obvious. It is about winning elections. Maga occupies all 3 branches of govt. For Democrats to regain power they must adopt long-game strategies, such as abandoning neoliberal economics for true populism.

Aaron Wells @aaronwells.bsky.social · 04/10/2025
Besides institution building, Republicans developed long-term coalition building: the Southern Strategy, evangelical mobilization, monetarist/neoliberal economic interests, cultural warfare. Democrats failed to match GOP coalition-building efforts. Now they wonder why Maga occupies the government.

Since Goldwater’s defeat in 1964, Republicans have pursued several aggressive political strategies. One of these is institutional expansion: funding think tanks, strengthening party infrastructure, reshaping the judiciary, etc. Democrats have failed to match this effort in consistency or magnitude.
