"No Other Land," the Palestinian-Israeli made film showing the destruction of the occupied West Bank's Masafer Yatta by Israeli soldiers, just won the Oscar for Best Documentary. It can't get a distributor in the US. Which tells you everything about censorship in the US.

It's like all the people who tell me Trump is very smart with his taxes... And the smart thing he does is " crimes" I always see realtor is talking about how they should mimic the Donald Trump tax strategy And I have to remind them that the secret sauce is " crimes"....

guys will get away with beings described as a business genius, and then you look at what their business genius actions are, and they're all variations on "stop paying rent and use the money saved to beat the case in court for not paying rent."

As far as I can tell, @markcarneyforpm.bsky.social and @chrystia-freeland.bsky.social are both highly qualified candidates who would govern with competence and integrity. But Ms. Freeland has the additional qualification of Donald Trump absolutely hating her guts.

I cannot, during these horrific times, recommend enough the importance of making pockets of time to just do things that are not related to anything but the joy of being alive and playing. You need it. You do. It will keep you whole. Which we need. We need you whole.

There's not much I can do on the global scale, but I'm putting this out on the microscopic chance that anyone influential a) will see this and b) cares what I think. If you have the ear of President Trump, please tell him that Elon Musk is not his friend. Musk is trying to usurp him.

I was about to post a half-serious grammatical quibble about how you should have said "such as" instead of "like." But a cactus being shoved up a dark orifice does indeed result in nasty things, so your sentence still works. :)

It's only truly night if I fall asleep before ~10pm and wake up at like 1am. It's very rare that I actually get to experience night, but when I do it's magical. I like to go outside and just exist in a world that feels truly asleep.

Schur's oeuvre, especially The Good Place and Parks and Rec, is a great tonic to whatever the hell this phenomenon is. He seems almost unique - among current TV showrunners - in his recognition that you can have both a heart AND a brain.

So we end up with shows that have heart, but no bite. And there's a kind of aggressive blandness to them that bothers me more and more. It starts to ring false, and seems emblematic of some deep problem with our society. Toxic positivity maybe? Idk, but I think that's part of it.

See also Hawaiian pizza (which I actually like), or "The Lady in Red" by Richard Marx. It's not always about punching up OR down. Sometimes it's simply a matter of taste. The thing that bothers me about Scrubs or Lasso or Spin City, as much as I love them, is that they are afraid to have taste.

E.g. in The Good Place, we learn that the Kars4Kids theme song is the national anthem of Hell. This is not a criticism of Kars4Kids as a charity, but of the song as a piece of art. Can you imagine Ted Lasso making an aesthetic judgement like that? No: I think Lawrence would think it was "too mean."
