Hideki Matsui is now the fourth Japanese rookie card in my collection, along with Ichiro, Seiya Suzuki, and Shohei Ohtani (technically I have his batting rookie, not his pitching one).

Has too much time passed to reboot The West Wing beginning with President Seaborn's campaign? Yes, right?

Victory tacos are much more repeatable than victory pot pies, I would think.

Michael is always a good read, but this one was especially good.

Hey, bud. Hope life has been treating you well! Life is good here. Still writing. Bought a house. It came with a koi pond, which has become a surprisingly enjoyable hobby.

Roberto Osuna? Or was there another one?

Aaron @aaronjsomers.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

You're not going to sell the league (or the players) on a franchise ownership group looking to tie attendance to theme parks.

101

Aaron @aaronjsomers.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

There's already a group that's been trying to bring a franchise to Orlando for years. Several cities also already appear firmly ahead of them in line.

Aaron @aaronjsomers.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Randomly noticed (learned?) today that Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki were born just six days apart. That's all. That's the tweet (err, whatever we decided to call these things).

With teams increasingly using the "taxi squads" to have a player available to activate just in case, this feels like an easy solution to implement.

000

Aaron @aaronjsomers.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

Based on the above, I'd say Miller leads the team and Gray has the lowest mark among starters.

000

Aaron @aaronjsomers.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

Or active, I guess, not 40.

100

Aaron @aaronjsomers.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

One could argue that "qualified for league leaders" deserves more reason to be bolded than "currently on 40-man roster". Though I accept that it's fluid throughout the season and could create a coding nightmare.

It surprised me how tough a consideration this was. For me, it's Ravech, SVP, Cohn, and Stuart Scott. Sorry, Berman. AA included Stephen A. Smith, which I get, but I also can't stand him. Related: Sports Night deserved more than one season, damnit.

Arte Moreno bought the Angels in 2003 (the year after they won the Series) for $184 million. He then spent 23 years running them into the ground, let the stadium decay, wasted Trout and Ohtani, and sold for $4 billion. And the owners are crying poverty and threatening to kill baseball next year.

Every time someone says this winter that Ketel Marte would too much of a clubhouse distraction they should be reminded that teams keep acquiring Tommy Pham by choice.

So, @threetwoeephus.bsky.social, you’re kind of the unofficial face of The Windup newsletter. You have any idea why your company can’t fix this stuff?? I’ve been asking for months now.

Aaron @aaronjsomers.bsky.social · 30/08/2026

Hey, @theathletic.com, what gives with The Windup newsletter? I haven’t received it in months. Nobody there tried to help fix this despite my sending several emails. Also, you’ve raised prices on me and now you’re partnering with Kalshi? Thinking it may be time to cancel.

Has there been a cooler Canadian (ballplayer)? I can't think of one.

Depending on potency (and if I time sales/promos right), I don't ever pay more than $15-25/8th here in MA.

Aaron @aaronjsomers.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

$6.99???!? That's a typo, right?

Relax. Lewie's beard can grow back.

I don't think I can recall anyone holding a grudge against a "prospect" (we'll use the term loosely) for as long as you have with Hagen Smith. (I'm not suggesting you're not justified.)

Leave it to Cashman to overpay for something the Yanks don't need ..... again.

@ericstephen.bsky.social may be able to answer this: Are newly acquired Seth Halvorsen and undrafted FA signing Wyatt Halvorsen related?

I have spent all of an hour in my new pool. Just floating. Alone. No distractions and no sounds other than a few birds and the waterfall from the koi pond. And this has been the most peaceful hour I think I have had in YEARS. I had basically forgotten how to relax. I’m always doing something.

It's a little fascinating watching Red Sox fans trying to convince themselves that Zach Neto is the right move for this team, right now, when most are overlooking the fact that Franklin Arias is not only one of the hottest hitters in the minor leagues this year but was just promoted to Triple-A.

I love watching the MLB Draft, but when there are forklifts and crews disassembling the stage behind the desk while Rounds 2 and on are ongoing, it is a really disappointing visual.

We're now at 16 no-hitters in 2026 after last night's combined effort in the NPB from Nash Walters, Jesús Liranzo, and José Quijada. tobenamedlater.beehiiv.com/p/tbnl-2026-...
