Put another way, a craven politician who calculates when she can appear to be independent without doing any harm to the right wing agenda she actually support.

I love when this text thread reappears on my phone. The Colorado mail ballot system is the gold standard that every state should model after. Voting should be easier, more accessible, and protected for everyone.

A tragedy with lots of comments finger pointing. Most blame Veo bike. Others the Parents. Likely plenty of blame to go around, but we almost never examine the system (long crossings, speeding traffic, massive vehicle, little safe bike/ped infrastructure) that enables this to happen.
denverwestword

A child has died weeks after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a rentable electric bike in Denver.

The 13-year-old boy reportedly attempted to cross West Colfax Avenue at a crosswalk while the no-walk signal was activated, according to the Denver Police Department. He was hit by a vehicle driving through a green traffic light near the Knox Court intersection in west Denver.

The boy was mere blocks away from his middle school when the collision occurred on May 7 at around 4:30 p.m. He was rushed to the hospital but died of his injuries on June 10, according to the police report. The driver is not facing criminal charges.

Police say the boy was riding a Veo e-bike, meaning the micromobility company’s first fatal collision in Denver occurred just six days after its launch.

I really hate this framing. On a question like birthright, 9-0 is a rebuke. So is 8-1. 5-4 or 6-3 is NOT a rebuke, it’s just insanity that three or four Justices think POTUS or Congress can ignore the Constitution.

A tale of three presidents...
George W. Bush Presidential Center @TheBushCenter):
Statement by President George W. Bush on Robert Mueller:
"Laura and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Robert Mueller. Bob dedicated his life to public service. As a Marine in Vietnam, he proved he was ready for tough assignments. He earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart before returning home to pursue law. In 2001, only one week into the job as the 6th Director of the F.B.I., Bob transitioned the agency mission to protecting the homeland after September 11. He led the agency effectively, helping prevent another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Laura and I send our heartfelt sympathy to his wife of nearly 60 years, Ann, and the Mueller family."Barack Obama @BarackObama):
Bob Mueller was one of the finest directors in the history of the FBI, transforming the bureau after 9/11 and saving countless lives. But it was his relentless commitment to the rule of law and his unwavering belief in our bedrock values that made him one of the most respected public servants of our time. Michelle and I send our condolences to Bob's family, and everyone who knew and admired him.Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump):
Robert Mueller just died. Good, I'm glad he's dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people! President DONALD J. TRUMP

I think the “aesthetics NIMBY” is my favorite NIMBY. I remember the same argument against a bike lane that would defile a beautiful street… lined on both side with fume belching cars. But sure, explain to me how slim cones or a small sign ruins aesthetics, which is more important than safety.

But I thought it was just simply neighbors raising concerns? 🙄 After five years of work & community support for a safer street near a local school, an ultra wealthy resident hired a lobbyist & got 100 neighbors to sign on to derail the Denver Alameda Ave safety project. Shameful DOTI.
Inside the fight over Alameda Avenue
The city spent years devising a plan to make Alameda Avenue safer through a road diet. The plan was to drop from four lanes of directional traffic to two lanes, plus a turn lane. Instead, officials changed course last month, soon before construction was supposed to begin.

City records show an influential group of neighbors, including an Anschutz, had hired a former city transportation official to lobby for them. They convinced the transportation department to scale back the $570,000 project.

The new design will instead keep three directional lanes of traffic, turning the fourth lane into a series of "turn pockets." The city says it's equally safe while keeping traffic moving more smoothly, but other residents say the new plan keeps too many lanes of traffic on the road.

This book by Omar El Akkad, truly should be on everyone’s shelf. It’s an essay on violence and oppression, about his lived experience, and a dissection western imperialism and its failings. The closest thing it reminds me of is Ta-Nehisi Coates and Between the World and Me. Read It.

The media really doesn’t know how to talk about Trump and his actions. They always defer to “President as King” language suggesting he’s just doing the thing, instead of expressing that he has no right or authority to do the thing.

Is there a any sadder group of people than Congressional Republicans? Just pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/02/u...
“The president was wonderful, as always,” Mr. Burchett said in the video. “Informative, funny, he told me he likes seeing me on TV, which was kind of cool.” Representative Byron Donalds, Republican of Florida, is shown in the video, too. “Did you show them what he signed for you?” Mr. Donalds asks Mr. Burchett. “Yeah, he signed a bunch of stuff,” Mr. Burchett said. “It’s cool.”

Mr. Burchett told The New York Times later on that his name had been misspelled on the placard placed in front of his chair for the Cabinet Room meeting (it was missing an “r”) so the president scribbled in the letter, signed both sides of the card and gave it to him as a souvenir. Mr. Burchett said the president also loaded up the son of Representative Chip Roy, Republican of Texas, with souvenirs.
