Accessibility considerations overlap with general usability that would help everybody and vice versa. Sites can look like they're focused on accessibility when they're implementing features because they're cool or trending. Have you encountered sites/apps that are "accidentally accessible"?

Were "sales" ever really about the customer? I see sales running constantly across marketplaces online. They seem less about a good deal and more about manufacturing urgency to get you to act on impulse. Manipulation dressed up as generosity. #DarkPatterns

Foundational principles are important for guiding a website build. One of the principles I've set is the ability to toggle some accommodations. A website/app should adapt to the users needs instead of making the user adapt. Here are the options I'm building in: ... #Accessibility #a11y #WebDev

I'm working on getting my website up using AI (Claude) for support. My partner and I have used several web builders. We're tired of: - features being gated behind payment tiers; - inaccessible user interfaces (UI); - not having the tools we need to work how we want. #Accessibility #a11y #WebDev

I see sites from organizations who say they'll make the best websites for businesses. Yet, they have many #accessibility issues and might not even bring up the word 'accessibility'. I think this is a problem.... anyone else? #UX #WCAG #a11y

On a site I recently audited, both the header and footer navigation regions are announced simply as "navigation," with no distinguishing name. Screen reader users relying on landmark navigation cannot tell them apart without exploring each one. #WCAG #Accessibility, #a11y, #Section508, #AODA

𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴: Don't underestimate the importance of getting this right. 🔹 Use 1.5x line spacing for body text. 🔹 Avoid cramped text—it slows reading. 🔹 Better spacing = better comprehension. #TypographyMatters #ReadableDesign #AccessibilityTips
Heading: “Line Spacing”
Sub-heading: “Using at least 1.5 times spacing improves readability"
Below is an example of a paragraph with 1.5 times spacing, with a green tick above it, then an example of a paragraph where the lines of text are too close together, with a red cross above it. The text in the paragraphs is used in the example paragraphs.
In the bottom right corner of the graphic, a tan-coloured spaniel-type dog wearing reading glasses seems annoyed.

A site I examined had identical alt and title attributes, causing both NVDA and TalkBack to announce each item's name twice in a row. #WCAG 4.1.2 (A). Look past your visual judgement/bias to assess a website's effectiveness. #Accessibility, #a11y, #WCAG, #Section508, #AODA

Has anyone used #NVDA on #Linux? I know they don't make a native version, but trying to see if I can get away from the #Microsoft ecosystem.

#WebBuilders often market themselves as allowing the creation of #accessible websites. But the builders themselves aren't accessible. How are disabled developers supposed to build an accessible website? Anyone else struggle with this? #Accessibility, #a11y, #WCAG, #Section508, #AODA

I tested a professional website building service claiming to be "mindful of our times" and to build the "forward face" of businesses. It never uses the word "access," "accessible," or "accessibility". What does this say to you? #Accessibility, #a11y, #WCAG, #Section508, #AODA

I encounter inaccessible PDFs on a regular basis. I know I've created some prior to knowing what accessibility meant. What do you feel is the biggest obstacle to people creating an accessible PDF (Personal Document Format)? #Accessibility, #a11y, #WCAG, #Section508, #AODA

Sliders (the web UI component) are inherently inaccessible. Trying to slide to the exact spot I want is fatiguing and aggravating. Here's how to make one intentionally accessible... Sliders (the food) are delicious! #WebDevelopment #Accessibility #a11y 1/5

#InfiniteScroll isn't an accessibility issue if done right. But if done wrong, here are the issues: - represents a dopamine trap for those with #ADHD - doomscrolling creates anxiety - promotes addictive tendencies - entraps users with cognitive disabilities #WebDevelopment #BeyondCompliance

An #Accessibility accommodation not covered by #WCAG: reducing opacity and/or blurring the background when a dropdown, modal, or popup opens. Helps people with cognitive differences (like me) and older adults focus. Simple to implement. Worth doing. #WebDevelopment #WebDesign
