You can't beat something with nothing, and right now Medicare for All is close to the only something on the table. Health policy experts need to offer something else. What are your best ideas? (Mine are coming)

This tells me two things: Americans are fed up with rising health care costs, and no one is offering up a more realistic, more effective alternative.

Two-thirds of Americans now say they favor Medicare for All, according to a new @kffhealthnews.org poll. That's the highest level KFF has recorded since it started polling the idea in 2016, up from 53 percent in 2020.

Studies now link routine adult vaccination to a lower risk of Alzheimer's and other dementias in older adults. The lower risk applies not only to the flu vaccine, but also to the shingles vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine, and the diptheria, pertussis tetanus vaccine (Tdap).

As I write in “Eat Your Ice Cream,” the six rules for a long, healthy life require evidence, not the overblown claims from the wellness industrial complex.

I recently shared a bold prediction that AI will soon outperform physicians. Earlier this year, another bold take of mine caused a stir: ice cream can be key to a healthy life. The same standard fuels both arguments: follow the evidence, even if it makes you uncomfortable.

CPT is where a lot of real learning happens. It's the difference between reading about a field and actually working in it before you graduate, and international students bring perspectives to that work, and to the classroom before it, that our American students learn from too.

Autonomous AI will beat AI-assisted physicians at some medical tasks by 2030
“Autonomous AI will likely soon exceed both unaided physicians and physicians aided by AI at five core cognitive medical tasks,” write Ezekiel J. Emanuel and Abe Baker-Butler.

As we continue to emphasize, AI will not replace doctors. It cannot do surgery or deliver a baby. But on the cognitive work of medicine, the evidence keeps pointing one way. We need to test autonomous AI at real-world deployment. Read more below.

Medicine Needs to Get Serious About AI
Let the robots try being doctors.

Zeke Emanuel, MD, PhD @zekeemanuel.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Two centuries ago, physicians blamed disease on bad humors and bled patients to treat it. Medicine has always progressed by embracing new tools, and it is the duty of doctors to not stand in the way of AI. Read more about my recent @jama.com paper with @vkhosla.bsky.social in @theatlantic.com

Wachter and I agree on an essential point. Given a curated set of facts, AI will outperform humans in diagnosis and management, and doctors may sometimes get in the way. Where we disagree is what the physician still adds once AI can act on its own with patients.

Opinion | There’s Really Only One Way to Stop Students From Cheating
Blue-book exams are fine, but we need to address the issue at its root.

Zeke Emanuel, MD, PhD @zekeemanuel.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Banning AI won't stop students from cheating. Building their moral identity will. If we want to solve the AI cheating problem in higher ed, we need to stop treating it as a technology problem and start treating it as a character problem. That means integrating ethics into the curriculum early.

My most serious worry: if we keep denying that AI can be autonomous, we're going to overlook how we make sure doctors don't become de-skilled. Many disagree with me. That's why I debated American Medical Association CEO Dr. John Whyte on the Lifers podcast hosted by @chrissyfarr.bsky.social.

AI is going to get better and better. When it comes into a field, it’s clunky, then improves, briefly loses to human-AI hybrids, then surpasses them. Medicine is next. I laid that all out in my recent @jama.com paper with @vkhosla.bsky.social, Neal Khosla, and Abe Baker-Butler.
