Our community is carrying a lot right now. 💗We’ve gathered peer-support lines, coping tools, affirming providers, mutual aid + other community-based resources so you know where you can turn for support: translifeline.org/resource-kit You deserve support before, during + after a crisis.
Trans Lifeline resource graphic on a light blue background. Heading: “Need someone to talk to?” Text reads, “These peer-support spaces may be available when you need someone to listen:” Resources listed are Warmline Portal — peer-run listening lines; Call BlackLine — support centering BIPOC; Thrive Lifeline — trans-led, text-based crisis support; and LGBT National Coming Out Hotline. A banner reads, “+ more at translifeline.org/resource-kit.” Small text notes: “Policies around emergency intervention vary. Ask about a service’s policies before sharing information if non-consensual intervention is a concern.”Trans Lifeline resource graphic on a pale peach background with a turquoise cactus illustration. Heading: “Crisis support isn’t the only kind of support.” Text says Trans Lifeline’s resources at translifeline.org/resource-kit include places to find affirming therapists, lower-cost therapy, abolition-centered care, mutual aid and community resources, community-based alternatives to police, and additional trans-affirming providers. Closing text reads, “You deserve support before, during, and after a crisis.”Trans Lifeline resource graphic on a pink background. Heading: “Need to get through right now?” Four coping tools are listed. “Ground: Notice 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell + 1 you can taste.” “Breathe: Use box breathing to slow down: inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, and hold for 4.” “Connect: Text or call someone you trust. You don’t have to know exactly what to say.” “Care for your body: Drink some water. Eat something, if you can. Do a body scan. Change your surroundings. Rest.” Bottom text directs readers to more coping tools at translifeline.org/resource-kit.Trans Lifeline resource graphic on a light blue background. Heading: “Someone you love is in crisis. Now what?” Three suggestions are listed: “Listen — Let them tell you what they need.” “Stay connected — Be with them, in person, on the phone, or over text.” “Respect their autonomy — Whenever possible, work with them instead of making decisions for them.” A banner says, “Before calling 911, learn about other options for supporting someone in crisis.” Bottom text directs readers to Trans Lifeline’s Supporting a Trans Friend in Crisis guide at translifeline.org/supporting-a-trans-friend-in-crisis.

Gender diversity isn’t new. Many words we use may be newer. Our existence isn’t. This #TransHistoryMonth, we’re looking back at some of the histories that brought us here — and celebrating the history trans people are still making every day. We’re still here. ✨

A pink flower graphic appears on the right.Trans History Month graphic on a dark blue background. Text reads: “Put the blame where it belongs. Be their champion. Society mistreats trans people. Remind your friend that what happened to them is unjust and that society is messed up. Now is not the time to play devil’s advocate. Keep affirming!”Text reads: “Respect your friend’s privacy. It can be tempting to ask another friend or family member for help — only bring other people in if your friend is OK with it. If your friend says they want to go to the hospital, go together or get a ride. If you can’t, you can try calling 911 with your friend’s consent and be intentional about what you say. If they have physical symptoms, describe those. This increases the likelihood of just an ambulance coming, and not the police.”Text reads: “And please remember, take care of yourself! Make sure you’re using your own support network if you’re stressed out. Remember what is and isn’t your job: You can support your friend, but you can’t necessarily change how they’re feeling or what they need to do.”

Supporting a trans friend in crisis can start with something simple: listen to them. You don’t have to fix everything. You can stay present, ask what they need, affirm them, and respect their autonomy. Here are some ways to support someone without automatically calling 988 or 911. 💜
Trans Lifeline graphic on an orange background with colorful turquoise, purple, and magenta abstract shapes. Text reads: “How to: Supporting your trans friend in crisis. What you can do instead of calling 988 or 911.” An illustration of a hand holding a phone appears at the bottom right.Text reads: “Listen to them. Practice active, reflective listening without trying to ‘fix’ anything. Your friend told you for a reason. They trust you to be there, so listen deeply and hear what they say.”Text reads: “It’s OK to be alarmed, but don’t panic. Often, all we need is for someone to listen while we talk through suicidality the same way they’d listen to any other serious topic. Sometimes your friend might have coping mechanisms that feel scary to you, like substance use or self-injury. Supporting each other without judgment is key.”Text reads: “Understand their circumstances. Ask your friend relevant, open-ended questions: What is taking up most of your headspace right now? What’s something we can do together this week? How can I best support you right now? What’s something that you can do today that would feel good for you?”

Audre Lorde's work in The Uses of Anger speaks about racism, white silence, and collective responsibility. “Lordean rage,” a term from Myisha Cherry, is about transforming anger into care, solidarity, and action. There is no trans liberation without racial justice. translifeline.org/donate
