Happy summer! I'm gonna be taking these next few months to go on a long social media break and focus on some of the stuff I've been procrastinating/not prioritizing! I wont be streaming or posting anywhere and I'll be spending less time on Discord. See y'all in the fall. 👋

3) When you understand but don’t condone something. Suggestion: “empatest” a combo of empathy and protest Ex: I empatest why the Eagles went to the White House after winning the Super Bowl.

2) describe a condition without an official diagnosis or knowledge in a field without formal qualifications. Suggestion: “Dida-” derived from autodidactic. Ex: “As a dida-accountant I’d suggest opening an LLC.” “Here’s what works for me as someone with dida-adhd”

1) A person who is considered family but isn’t technically family. A close personal friend. Suggestion: something akin to “step”. Maybe “Fay”, fits with “friends and family” and works with the current definition of Fay. Ex: “This is my fay-aunt, my mom and her met in middle school.”

Screenshot of the the definition for the word fay.

Text:

fay (verb)
ˈfā
fayed; faying; fays
: to fit or join closely or tightly

Please be kind to yourself. If I have one regret it’s how rough I was on myself throughout life. People make mistakes. People upset others. Everyone lets themselves and others down from time to time and it’s ok.

I'm normally pretty apathetic about stuff like this tbh because I try and keep in mind the actual impact I'm able to have/little I can change, but I do think that people should at least be informed so that they can make a fair and educated decision.

I feel like theres gonna be a big push on 'ethically' trained genAI soon & I just wanna remind people that even if they remove all the issues with what they train on, the **process** of training them and use of genAI is inherently bad due to the environmental impacts. 📰 news.mit.edu/2025/explain...

screenshot of an article with the following text:

The power needed to train and deploy a model like OpenAI’s GPT-3 is difficult to ascertain. In a 2021 research paper, scientists from Google and the University of California at Berkeley estimated the training process alone consumed 1,287 megawatt hours of electricity (enough to power about 120 average U.S. homes for a year), generating about 552 tons of carbon dioxide.

While all machine-learning models must be trained, one issue unique to generative AI is the rapid fluctuations in energy use that occur over different phases of the training process, Bashir explains.

Power grid operators must have a way to absorb those fluctuations to protect the grid, and they usually employ diesel-based generators for that task.

Increasing impacts from inference

Once a generative AI model is trained, the energy demands don’t disappear.

Each time a model is used, perhaps by an individual asking ChatGPT to summarize an email, the computing hardware that performs those operations consumes energy. Researchers have estimated that a ChatGPT query consumes about five times more electricity than a simple web search.

“But an everyday user doesn’t think too much about that,” says Bashir. “The ease-of-use of generative AI interfaces and the lack of information about the environmental impacts of my actions means that, as a user, I don’t have much incentive to cut back on my use of generative AI.”

Article is 'Explained: Generative AI’s environmental impact' by Adam Zewe in MIT News.

Honestly, after like the 3rd time of a cancel/reschedule I would probably say something like 'its seems like your schedule is a bit unpredictable so I'll hold off inviting you until you let me know when you'll be available." but yeah some people are just bad at committing/showing up.

010

Tina Narvaez Jr @tinanarvaezjr.com · 24/03/2025

Ive found collabs are way more likely to come to fruition if the organizer approaches the others with details rather than just a general, "we should collab!" as well as if the group has an aligned streaming schedule. Very hard to make it work with little detail and a wide variety of availability.

3700

Tina Narvaez Jr @tinanarvaezjr.com · 24/03/2025

If you want to collab with other streamers you gotta make it as easy as possible because collabs fall apart so easily. Having a set schedule and finding people who stream at that time, picking a date/time and game, not scheduling out too far; all these will make it easier to actually have a collab.

"if I just work hard enough, eventually I'll make it" No. cause if you don't make it that means you didn't work hard enough. And that isn't fair to your efforts. there are so many factors outside of your hands. So much success is luck, and failure is not always your fault. cut yourself some slack.

accessibility! Mainly for people who use screen readers and/or have vision problems or image processing issues but as with almost all accessibility options its beneficial to all. Such as if someone is unsure what the image is, the alt text can help clarify!

Tina Narvaez Jr @tinanarvaezjr.com · 14/03/2025

god this is so me, if we left off on good terms we still are, no matter how long its been. Also you'll most likely know if it's bad terms because I'm pretty blunt to the people I wish to disassocate from hahaha

Tina Narvaez Jr @tinanarvaezjr.com · 14/03/2025

If you struggle with writing alt text for images I've found starting with what type of image it is helps ex: Screenshot, iIllistration, photograph, etc This then gets it started and is easier for me to describe from there. I just pretend someone has held up the image & asked me "what is this?"

This has all just been on my mind lately and wanted to post something about it. I know things often feel bleak but there are people fighting every day for our futures and being more mindful of what we share not only helps them but also helps us as well.🩵

0660

Tina Narvaez Jr @tinanarvaezjr.com · 12/03/2025

I don’t have a quick fix or simple idea on how to solve this issues but my recs are to look into your local & state politicians and support those that push for education reform and funding and also while online try and prioritize posts tied to official movements or have specific call to actions.

1670

Tina Narvaez Jr @tinanarvaezjr.com · 12/03/2025

But so often now activism is reduced to just “this thing is bad” and/or ”I’m not happy/don’t agree with (THING)” with no tangle action or path forward. It satisfies people’s moral obligations without ever moving anything forward and it’s exhausting for all.

1520

Tina Narvaez Jr @tinanarvaezjr.com · 12/03/2025

Easiest example of this is breast cancer ‘awareness’ was never about just making people aware it existed. It’s educating people on the symptoms/warning signs and educating the masses on women’s health issues. If it was only ever letting people know it was a thing it’ve been pointless.

1500

Tina Narvaez Jr @tinanarvaezjr.com · 12/03/2025

Education is the most important aspect of any progressive social activism/advancement and at some point education and awareness became conflated and then reduced to only awareness which will never lead to action or change and why social media activism is so often so futile.
