Leave others names out of what you're building. Its distasteful. Make what you're building, hot, on its own.

June is coming so fast! I'm so excited to have my stupid idea from a year ago be so close to done. Fingers crossed but if everything works out, I hoping to launch the game live during my talk "How I Ignored Reddit and Made a Steam Game Using React" at @renderatl.com

I've been seeing an alarming pattern in OSS GitHub communities lately: people just scraping issues, pinging maintainers with urgency to get the issues assigned to them and producing PRs (mostly through coding agents) within minutes of maintainers agreeing to assign the issue.

least surprising thing ever: llms are NOT ANALYTICS TOOLS. “it explained everything so confidently, nobody questioned it” literally “so confident” is a red flag.

MCP is about to do to user experiences, what API did in the 2010s While you may not like AI, your customer & user base is eating it up and demanding it in your app interactions. MCP will become a standard within the next year.

I think you're both generally right from my experience. I think we are doing a disservice to juniors by telling them not to learn how to use it. The reality is, it is almost impossible to find a job right now if you don't accessorize your CV with it. I also think it is destroying our pipeline of

I understand that you have a position on it and I can respect someone that has a position on a subject based on research that they’ve collected. Ultimately, we are all able to change our opinion in the future based on what we experience in the void, which is what make human intelligence soo great 😃

FWIW. I got to stennis because of that first boss 😆. She started on punch cards and made me do it too.

Justin E. Samuels @thugdebugger.dev · 02/10/2025
Things that junior devs usually focus on. The big projects are still human driven. But I do at times write my discrete math into the AI to get a sanity check and it helps, to do then say “now convert this into a Boolean equation for my statement”

Did it help me, yes. Did she also make me write much assembly to earn her respect, also yes. Did me knowing how to use an IDE make me any less of an engineer, no. So I think, while you can argue it’s hype, it does have some small productivity boosts, like scaffolding and small tests

Justin E. Samuels @thugdebugger.dev · 02/10/2025
We’re getting back into nuanced territory tho. I can use a personal example again When I first came into industry, IDE experience was a requirement My first boss told me “I don’t respect you because you don’t really understand how to code since the computer helps you now” To her point…

We must show excitement from a senior level. If not, we can resist, but they’ll go elsewhere and ultimately that’ll only hurt the most vulnerable (entry and person of color). This was just my experience and why now I’m heavy on “adapt. Adapt. Adapt. Or we will miss out”.

Justin E. Samuels @thugdebugger.dev · 02/10/2025
To shape what’s coming next. As I talk to many employers about what they need from new hires, AI isn’t even a negotiation now, it’s a requirement. That coupled with academia, I had to put my personal grievances aside and just understand that if we want the future to get excited and participate,

Justin E. Samuels @thugdebugger.dev · 02/10/2025
The “why” is greater than the “you” here. Again, I resisted AI until Nov 2024 when I went to UC Berkeley to learn more. I left that visit with my eyes wide open because of what they’re doing on the academic side for the world with it. What we get B2C isn’t as advance yet (per usual) but it’s going

FWIW, I don’t agree with all these moronic little use cases. But the big prospect of the future for what it can be is exciting. And that excitement is what will fuel innovation. And that innovation is what fuels the next generation.

Justin E. Samuels @thugdebugger.dev · 02/10/2025
Also, I think about our colleagues that have put many hours into AI. It’s a real science, you know this I’m sure with how the decision matrixes work; that’s hard stuff that I wouldn’t ever want to do. But I do appreciate the work & pursuit that is happening to help push us forward, which is the goal

Justin E. Samuels @thugdebugger.dev · 02/10/2025
I think we can disagree here and I’m fine with that, but not et all I agree with you on the notion that it’s wrong a lot. That it can screw you and is screwing good ppl out of jobs But I disagree on us not encouraging the future developers of the industry to pursue its use or to shill on it.

It’s an assistant. Which is GREAT. Wouldn’t you wish you had this extra brain when you’re keeping mental mapping in your head the whole time? It’s such a beautiful thing that if we continue to go head on with industry, a lot of new ppl are getting confused. This reminds me of 2015 all over again

Justin E. Samuels @thugdebugger.dev · 02/10/2025
Chances (like mentioned in other thread). Like I said before tho, demonizing AI isn’t going to help anyone here when it’s about to be a real requirement (unlike blockchain which was a shill).

Being able to have someone that you can problem solve against while you’re there. It is the missing copilot (no pun intended) to help make solving the biggest problems more feasible. Not the driver but the assistant. And you’ll be shocked how many new grads don’t use AI and it’s crippling their
