Just found out we’re located in the “pro stage” so regular attendees (non professional badges) can’t get in without a reservation. So make a reservation beforehand i guess? This is somewhat annoying and unexpected.

Powerful statement from mathematicians around the world. “We urge mathematicians to discontinue their work with OpenAI and to return to a vision of science that centers human understanding.” The backlash to AI is only just beginning. terrytao.wordpress.com/2026/10/07/a...

I’ve taught classes on blockchains. So I know what NFTs can offer and what they cannot. Thanks for the offer.

Big tech paused CA’s GenAi transparency bill AB412 behind closed doors. However, over 3.8 million creative workers have come together to demand transparency! This coalition isn’t going anywhere! Its sponsors, CAA, SAG AFTRA, NAVA Voices & The Author’s Guild have next steps! Here’s what to do👇
AB-412 UPDATE
The Al Copyright Transparency Act
WE'RE NOT GOING AWAY
Artists & Creators Must Have Transparency!
The irony of a transparency bill dying in the dark is not lost on those of us in the creative community.
Big Tech is terrified of transparency. Big Tech, who has fought us every step of the way on the Al Copyright Transparency Act, has now succeeded in getting the legislature to kill AB-412 behind the closed doors of an appropriations committee.
It should be noted that AB-412 was a bill that had no fiscal appropriation whatsoever.
This will be devastating to the creative industries, their IP, and the hundreds of thousands of creative workers who bring billions of dollars to California's economy. Creative workers are struggling, and this very simple transparency bill could have helped countless people. The issue is not going away, and delaying workable solutions for such an increasing problem will only make the situation worse for everybody.
Our coalition representing more than 3.8 million individuals, brought creative workers from every corner of the creative economy together with a unified voice. Our bill passed out of the California Assembly, four committees in the State legislature, and several hundred individuals showed up at every single public hearing to say just how much a bill like AB-412 could help them. This issue is not going away. We are not going away. We are now moving to put our energy towards the next best steps.
Please take a moment to contact Assembly Member Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (916) 319-2016 and Assembly Member Ash Kalra (916) 319-2025 to thank them for their leadership in authoring and Co-Authoring this bill respectively.
Please express to them our request that they bring this bill back next session. Please tell everyone you know to contact them as well.
AB-412 simply affects too many people to simply be swept away into a corner and decided in the dark.
Sincerely, SAG•AFTRA CONCEPT ART ASSOCIATION
NAVA VOICE ACTORS AG AuthorsTRANSPARENCY SHOULDN'T BE DECIDED IN THE DARK.
Big Tech wants AB 412 stopped behind closed doors. A bill affecting hundreds of thousands of California creatives deserves a public hearing.
Call Assembly Members Rebecca Bauer-Kahan at
(916)319-2016 and Ash Kalra at (916)319-2025
thanking them for their leadership in authoring this bill and requesting they bring AB 412 back next session.

Thank you and @kafsofit.bsky.social for this information. We're new to this part of the online space, and this is definitely news we're digesting and carefully considering. I will investigate the other platforms and see if we can find a workable alternative.

Sorry if my reply sounded pointed. Just trying to suggest that the way to fight back against bad actors is not to run away from anything they touch, but to organize against them to deplatform them.
110
The Glaze Project (UChicago SAND Lab and ETCH) @theglazeproject.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
So ... what do we do if an offensive group starts using wordpress? We switch to something else, until we're using something that no offensive group uses or wants to use? Sorry but I don't think that is a viable tactic. Organize and get substack to deplatform hate groups. That's a better solution.

The Glaze Project (UChicago SAND Lab and ETCH) @theglazeproject.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
I'm hopeful we can do more on the technology side. Meta glasses use local bluetooth connections to send video to phones for recording/processing. A reasonably powerful BLE jammer will disable the glasses in a small area. It will also disrupt headphones or watches, but might be practical.

The Glaze Project (UChicago SAND Lab and ETCH) @theglazeproject.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
I appreciate the note. I looked at Ghost.org. They charge a monthly rate while Substack is free. I also recognize that any platform can have bad actors spreading misinformation or hate speech. Substack can/should de-platform these groups. But right now we have to go w/ the free option.

The Glaze Project (UChicago SAND Lab and ETCH) @theglazeproject.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Yes, it takes time to break anything, and the strength of any results ultimately depend on: a) the specific prompt that is being disrupted, and b) the # of artists who post images on each subject using nightshade. That said, it takes just a few hundred images to subvert a single topic.

4. Some have been asking about the Cara scraping incidents. I'll let Cara folks answer those. I will say that there are security measures that can be deployed to stop/slow down these activities. But it does require engineers to deploy. Glaze is not designed to stop scraping, only the training after.

3. ETCH will be starting a substack in the coming weeks to help answer key questions in AI related to art and creative content, things like watermarks, stopping scrapers, unlearning, attribution to specific training data, etc.

2. There's still more misinformation circulating about Glaze and Nightshade being "bypassed." That is false. Nothing has changed recently. We periodically test against different models and new optimization techniques to improve visual quality. Will update with improvements when we have something new

No. Servers have been back for a while. Probably an issue with your network blocking access?

The Glaze Project (UChicago SAND Lab and ETCH) @theglazeproject.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
No. Either you got the file or not. Power outage would not affect that. Some external libraries are downloaded from huggingface. You need to make sure they are accessible from your network.

As of 9pm CST (Aug 19), webglaze is back up and functional. Worker nodes are up and chipping away at the 200+ jobs waiting in the queue. Job processing times will remain high for the next couple of hours but should return to normal (light load) soon. Thanks for your patience.

one more update. web glaze web interface is restored.. but afaik, the worker servers that run glaze for webglaze are still slowly being restored... so you can submit jobs but they but just sit in the queue until the worker servers come online.
