The controversy around Anna Biller’s The Face of Horror got me thinking about our curious habit of calling anything theatrical, beautiful or emotionally sincere “camp”. Read the article on Amicus Horror amicushorror.co.uk/anna-biller-... #annabiller #thefaceofhorror #horrorcommunity

Anna Biller and the Trouble with Calling Everything Camp

Lawrie Brewster explores Anna Biller, The Love Witch and The Face of Horror, asking why horror audiences sometimes mistake cinematic sincerity for camp.

It is indeed. So is Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan, which @superamanda.bsky.social & I watched on the Criterion Channel the other night. The story is the basis for her friend Anna Biller’s new film The Face of Horror.

THE FACE OF HORROR will be excellent. David Mullen and Anna in top form

As filmmaker yourself then dont miss out on her latest work, THE FACE OF HORROR, which is a medieval retelling of Yotsuya Kaidan. No need to be biased.

Anna Biller has never denied there was a good faith discussion. Harvey Milk wrote a letter to President Jimmy Carter imploring him to give custody of a child to Jim Jones of people's temple. The child was later murdered at Jones' behest. Those freaks didn't simply vanish when the 1970s ended.

Also she stated on Twitter verbatim that she doesn't believe in the satanic panic.

You don't think that people can have a change of mind after a certain point in time? You are a longtime researcher of conspiracy theories, but she's not a longtime proponent of them.

Those aren’t receipts. If you’re going to attach a serious ideological label like “TERF” that can cause harm then produce realevidence. Where did Anna Biller say trans women aren’t women? Where did she advocate excluding trans? Why are you creating a villain where none exists? Is this truth social?

010

Super Amanda @superamanda.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Anna Biller, like many of us are concerned that victims of child abuse are shouted down with claims of false memory. Good faith questions exist. And once you study Jonestown and peoples temple, you realize anything could’ve happened. Don’t think that those freaks just disappeared after the 1970s.

Super Amanda @superamanda.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

She has stated that she does not believe in this satanic panic. I don’t know if you were around California in the late 1970s, but somebody named Harvey Milk wrote Jimmy Carter to tell him to give a kidnapped child back to Jim Jones. The child was murdered in Guyana along with over 280 other children

021

Super Amanda @superamanda.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

She’s not a TERF. That link didn’t produce any proof. If you’re going to attach a serious ideological label like “TERF” to a woman , produce the evidence. Where did Anna Biller say trans women aren’t women? Where did she advocate excluding trans people? Maybe check the veracity of your sources…
