When we plan wildlife corridors, we usually pick the most charismatic or well-studied species to guide the maps. But new research published in @stacksjournal.bsky.social suggests that's been the wrong approach and offers a better one. Take a look!

Turns out we've been thinking about one old-growth animal wrong. The red tree vole, one of the most canopy-dependent mammals in the Pacific Northwest, is assumed to need ancient forests to survive. But new research published in @stacksjournal.bsky.social found the story to be more complex. 🧵

Most researchers aren't blocked by bad ideas or missing data. They're blocked by statistical code that they don't have time to learn. New research in @stacksjournal.bsky.social argues how AI can fix that...without generating a single line of unreliable output.

The red tree vole has long been written off as an old-forest species — only at home in ancient Douglas-firs. But a 4-year study of 6,500+ trees in Oregon found them nesting in 30-year-old stands too. The catch? It almost entirely depends on one thing: how big the nest is.

We desperately need innovation in #ScientificPublishing. That’s why we created our new model of double-blind collaborative #peerreview to be transparent, credible, and fair. Reviewers are even calling it fun & refreshing — 2 words I don’t think anyone has ever said about peer review. 🧪

Did you know 50-70% of credible science is never published? We're missing out on a lot of information! One of our goals is to make it easier to peer review & publish datasets, small studies, & negative results. We all deserve to make an impact with our findings, regardless of how splashy they are.

Open and transparent peer review should be the norm in #ScientificPublishing. It increases trust in the peer review process and in the published literature. Our collaborative peer review is double-blind to focus on the science, but then transparent upon publication. The best of both worlds!
