For any other fans of the classic Cohost moment where Gravis Cathode Ray Dude discovered the theme song for the game "Interpose," the Kickstarter campaign for the comic book adaptation of that game has finally launched: www.kickstarter.com/projects/ben...
I NEED YOU ALL TO DROP WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT THIS FUCKING SECOND AND MAKE TIME FOR THIS.

i might be the last person to hear about it, i don't know, but I fired up this random game from my ExoDOS collection, Interpose, and found out that it's an early furry game from 1995, and a pretty good shmup, and has an incredibly banging soundtrack, but i was absolutely not prepared for what happened when I just left the menu music playing and it turned out that
THEY COMPOSED AN ORIGINAL SYNTHPOP SONG WITH LYRICS FOR A GAME ABOUT A CATBOY SAVING THE GALAXY. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. IT GOES HARD AS HELL. MANDATORY CLICK.

i legitimately lost my shit when the vocals started and if you don't believe me you can check the VOD (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUC8QEyy_MY&t=10794s). this is a certified eurodisco planet of the bass banger, complete with lyrics that aren't quite the best english. my best guess at the words below, but the wild thing is that despite it's heroic tone, it's just a weird teenage rumination on the inevitability of death.

this fucks fully. nothing any of us has done is as sincere as this and we need to step up. we got left in the dust by these norwegian kids before Spiceworld even came out

I find it kinda funny that the Unity Asset Store still has a "decentralization" tab in its menu bar, even through the tag has been totally removed at this point
Collage of the Asset Store menu bar (which still contains the "decentralization" button on most pages other than the front page), the sidebar (showing 0 items tagged with "decentralization") and the decentralization tag page itself (which now just says "The Decentralization/Web3 category has been discontinued from the Asset Store.)

I do also see reviewers at the time being disappointed that it couldn't be used like a Walkman, which is kinda interesting!
Excerpt from "Products Seek Place" in Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives March 12, 1983

Just out, and perfect for the
on-the-go, die-hard vinyl lover is
Audio-Technica's super compact,
personal Phonograph system, Mister Disc.
Hailed as "a new
product category" by A-T presi-
dent Jon Kelly, this $170 battery
(or AC) powered record player
is actually smaller than the 12
inch LPs and 45 rpm singles it
spins. The unit measures just
over 11 inches long, 4 inches
wide, and 21k inches high,
weighs only 214 pounds, and
packs into a tidy, suede cloth
pouch.
Playing through the supplied
Audio-Technica headDhones, the
sound from Mister Disc unex-
pectedly good — true high fideli-
ty. The unit features a wow and
rumble-free, belt-drive motor
and a lightweight tone arm with
dual magnet cartridge and
diamond stylus. The top lid of
the player opens up to accept a
record, then folds down again to
stabilize an LP, which overhangs
considerably on the four inch
turntable platter. When playing
on a flat surface, I found Mister Disc
to be well isolated against
table pounding vibrations, but
no, there's no way to use the unit
as a "walkman," in-transit.
Designed basically for stere-
ophone listening, the player
comes with two phone jacks for
sharing the sound. plus a "line
out" jack to permit playing Mister Disc
through any standard
ter
stereo system.

I'm honestly kinda surprised to hear that it was marketed as being "portable," but running a search in my library's newspaper archives, I do see print coverage that the Sound Burger was definitely being pitched that way, as something you'd take, like, on a plane or to a pool.
mister disc Personal Portable Phono System box"Mister Disc plays records anywhere" from The Chronicle Telegram Newspaper Archives November 3, 1983
OCR'ed:
MISTER DISC lets you play records at poolside.
You're comfortably seated on your morning flight to Atlanta and you've just begun reading your magazine when, out of the corner of your eye, you the passenger across the aisle listening to phonograph records. YB, listening to phonograph records! It's your first encounter Mister Disc, a compact, portable play-anywhere phono system produced by
Audio-Technica.
About the size of a facial tissue box (11 1/2 incha long, by 4 inches wide, by 2 1/2 inches high) Mister Disc plays full-size LPs and 45s for twelve hours or complement of three flashlight "C" cells. (Or, should standard AC power be available, tbe system may be played using a adapter available as an accessory.) One lightweight set of
folding stereophones comes with it but there are jacks for two pain in the event you may wish to share your music with a friend.
BUT WHAT if you want to play it throe your home audio system or other portable equipment? No problem. Extra output jacks double as line-out/tape-out receptacles.
At $149.95 (nationally advertised price) the compact portable is a high- performance record laying system. It features a Vector-APigned Dual Magnet cartridge with mlished diamond StYIUSt uynanucally batanced tone arm, and a reliable DC motor which is effectively isolated by a belt drive to assure quiet, rumble- and wow-free listening.

Having used it for a bit, it would be very helpful if we could type in the specific index we want to send an item to in the list like on BGG's geeklist bulk order tool or Steam's wishlist page, but this is already suuuper helpful!! ❤️
Example of the BGG list bulk ordering tool, which has a box to type in a list item's new index next to each item, allowing users to move them that way instead of dragging them

The pitch for UE6 is that the code itself will be a metaverse, whatever the hell that means The part I *do* know is that they're getting rid of their widely-praised visual coding system (Blueprint) and the bedrock of Unreal development's structure (Actor+Component) in order to do that
Why Verse?
Traditional programming languages carry decades of historical baggage and design compromises. Verse starts fresh, learning from the past but not bound by it. It's designed for a future where:
• Code lives forever in a persistent metaverse
• Millions of developers contribute to a shared codebase
• Programs must be safe, concurrent, and composable by default
• Backward compatibility is not optional but essential
• The boundary between compile-time and runtime is fluidThe Nature of Code Publication
When developers publish code to the Verse metaverse, they enter into a social contract with all future users of that code. This contract is more than just a convention—it's enforced by the language itself. Consider what happens when you publish a simple value:

Thing<public>:int = 666

This seemingly straightforward declaration carries profound implications. By marking Thing as public, you're making a commitment that extends indefinitely into the future. Users can depend on Thing always existing and always being an integer. While you retain the freedom to change its actual value, the existence and type of Thing become permanent fixtures in the metaverse's landscape.

On top of their treatment of NSFW content, Stripe is actively running scams on Kickstarter: The KS checkout screen pops up an ad from Stripe that offers to pay users $5 for their bank account username/password so they can sell it to a handful of "trusted providers" who would like to log in as you.
In other instances, when you input your login credentials in the credential pane, you are providing your credentials to Stripe and one of our trusted service providers. Stripe and our service provider may store and use your credentials to regularly collect updated data and provide it to the business. We do not share your login credentials with the business.

Stripe provides the business with the data they’ve requested and you’ve agreed to share. You may share the account data that Stripe receives from your financial institution, typically including:

accounts details (such as account and routing number),
ownership information (such as the name and address on the account),
balance information (the then-current account balance), and
transaction data (the transactions involving your account that you would typically see on a statement)Kickstarter (Stripe) checkout screen, offering $5 back if you pay with "Bank via Link," where you give Stripe and their "trusted providers" your bank account login information

* shut up about video games

* stop listening to advice
* start your own scene
* art isn't about giving people what they want
* do NOT call us punk
