Sexual assault is never the survivor’s fault. Not because of what they wore. Not because of how much they drank. Not because of where they went. Not because they knew the person who assaulted them

When a survivor tells you they’ve been sexually assaulted, the response should never be “Are you sure?” or “Why didn’t you…?” It should be: I believe you. It wasn’t your fault. What do you need?

If the news about Cornell has brought something up for you, you’re not alone. The anger. The fear. The disbelief. The exhaustion of watching another sexual assault case unfold in public—and watching people debate whether a survivor should be believed. Believe them. Period.

There is no single path, no universal timeline, and no one “right” way to heal. What matters is finding a path that supports health, healing, and wellbeing — and making sure every person is met with dignity, respect, and compassion along the way.
