I googled Gate Robot looking for screenshots of my old HK DVDs and I got an AI summary sourced entirely from this post. google, send million dollar

dustland (crows x worst universe) by takahashi hiroshi. delinquent manga is so good. just guys having rumbles. it gets no better

gotta respect this "dress-up darling, but for foot guys" manga as a piece of entrepreneurship. get money get paid

there is this mode in sega mj where you indirectly "compete" with a pro for best 10 scores in the play period. playing outside of jp i have always enjoyed an unfair advantage in these events cause of the time difference. and that's how i'm ahead of pro aiko hinata, who has better things to do tbh

found deep in storage: a ninja slayer bag containing left-over kawaiikochans books, pop team epic plushes, and the promotional "original english version of ninja slayer" book. a real portrait of a moment in my life

This is a new one on me; my Newegg order came with spam from doordash. “First time only” cards so they are genuinely useless.

meanwhile in tenpai, our hero was literally stabbed in the back at the mahjong table

baby's first jumpscare. skeletor sent me running *out of the house*. i had an irrational fear of movie credits throughout my early childhood cause i always believed something scary was lying in wait. sure was mild, to get a reaction like that out of me

translator knew what they were doing, and was right (bouryouku banzai (hooray for violence); homura kawamoto/nadainishi)

you wanna talk "aesthetic", how about "80s tv drama with theme song by toshiki kadomatsu". aesthetic level through the roof

I went 10th/16 in tourney but kind of redeemed myself in final game. Not all is lost

the tl of blue flames finished. the villain protagonist gets a comeuppance but the manga ends at the exact moment of his fall, denying the reader the satisfaction. amazed the ova didn't fast forward to the ending. would have made an amazing credit roll. spoiler tagged the last page

comic page. a man is standing alone in pitch darkness clutching a pistol and laughing to himself. sound effects on page: "AH HA HA HA HA HA HA!" text at bottom: "BLUE FLAME / END"

i was having difficulty expressing the difference between these two comics's art style. this cleared up when i looked up the artists and found that left artist usually does yaoi and right artist drew the manga adaptation of shakugan no shana. now i can place it perfectly.

currently writing about mahjong pro biography manga. the best tidbit of my research is that pro arisa date cameos in the edgelord series tohai... as a young boy who is killed offscreen moments after his scene. you're gonna have to trust me when i say this was *already* the funniest scene in tohai

i'm not a translator but i sure understood why they used "motherfucker!" for "くそ！” in this final episode of the season for liar game, and it matched the mood

it seems to be wrapping up and i can't post pages anymore because we're in that zone of the comic, but i really have enjoyed the series kagurai: kagura and raito. straightforward shonen action with giant samurai lady heroine, interesting worldview and powers, and Actual Stakes

My nostalgic fave are the famous "crabstick" (this is why these subs are called that) subs of Mazinger Z and the other Toei robot anime. My set of the movies called them Mazinger "Omnipotent Armored Knight" and Getter Robo "Gate Robot" and I still think of those names all the time.

yeah i guess it's in character for an asuka avatar to ragequit *everyone gathers around whispering stuff like "damn, he's so right, so brave"*

081

Dave@Not-Convention Recovery @sasuraiger.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

but the ova has this scene (not in the manga) where the hero thinks about the girl he drove to attempt suicide while he's having sex with another woman and the thought of it is clearly getting him off, which is a level beyond the manga

i continue to read the tl of blue flames (though it's definitely mtl: there is no type setting and they put out like four chapters a day). it's an average villain drama; i suspect only the pacing, direction and general execution of the blue flames ova are what put it in worst-of territory.

oh here's a fun one: akiko higashimura recently got up on stage in new york and told everybody "my title is better. remember my title" re kakukaku shikajika

i for one love it when manga artists painstakingly re-create arcade video games solely for their own satisfaction (aki by oosaki mitsuru, bio manga of aki and rumi nikaido)

Dave@Not-Convention Recovery @sasuraiger.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

i wonder if they let you pick what video effect they were gonna put on you or if they went on vibes

2213

Dave@Not-Convention Recovery @sasuraiger.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

i don't think the new games do this anymore, but arcade sega mj used to have actual videos of the pro play when they won a big hand. imagine being this powerful

konami's page shows off the very first cab, which wasn't online until a few months after launch and had a joystick variant! their history page also brags that this was a major shift from the strip mahjong era, lol

071

Dave@Not-Convention Recovery @sasuraiger.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

i got an itch to look up stuff on arcade mahjong because i'm writing about my experience playing mj fight club. anyway behold the luxury of the original sega MJ setup (basically derby owners' club; this gave way to much smaller individual stations)

i read this cause mangaplus popped up THIS IS A HUGE HIT HERE IN JAPAN. GOTTA READ IT. and i wondered why i'd never heard of it and probably the answer is this girl is machine-gunning jokes about japanese celebrities

i assume being into late night radio in japan is roughly analogous to being a Podcast Guy ("someone hertz", an unbelievable title. manga by ei yamano)
