Nix can be so great on day, then another day you're doing PRs on repos asking to let you configure the binary path because of course it's not in /usr/bin

So uhhh... I was tweaking my mount points to add a compressed subvolume and nixos just unmounted the disk with the swapfile. Instant borking. Hopefully the disk recovers

For information, opera (the browser) is doing ad campains where their ads hijack the site, redirect all the users to their download page, and forcibly download their installers. Wouldn't trust a browser that does that. Just saying

Open Source hot take: A software project is allowed to be *done*. Not everything needs to add features or rewrite things. You can just be happy with functionality and focus on just maintainance. "Maintenance mode" is not always bad but can just show a mature product.

A thing that is missing on the Fediverse is a Pixiv/danbooru alternative. Something really focussed on artists. Pixel fed is Instagram, vernissage is only photography and frequency seems more of a be real. I want to have series! I want to have character tags! I want free popularity searches! I […]

RE: mastodon.social/@RustyNova/11728247… I may have been a bit too hasty with blaming nix. The issue is that 1.21.1 uses java 21. Not 25.

Lost the nix hating thread. Oh well. I HATE NIX. The easy to follow tutorial is working just fine but due to the nix trickery I am forced to search into 620470 sites to find what package I need, and how I can force the app to use the environment instead of all the bullshit it does to emulate […]

Who the fuck added randomised chemical consumption to melanism is evil. If the recipe ask for 200grams of sugar, it can't just randomly take 190 or 210. That's not how it works.

And the idea that something isn't art because it's there for a purpose or because you, as an audience member, don't see it is ridiculous!

Jade posted:

Far more to art exists than what you see as an audience member - when you watch a film, you do not know or care about the camera the cinematographer used, but it shapes what you experience. When you go to a live music show, you can't hear the cues and countdowns in the performer's ears that make sure everything happens in perfect time, but they are as essential to the performance as the lights that colour the stage. And yet it is a part of the art nonetheless - something does not have to be seen to have meaning or to be part of a performance.
