There’s a lot of verbs and adjectives to describe the President’s speech. Unifying is not one of them.

When George Washington voluntarily stepped aside after two terms, he showed a world dominated by kings and emperors that America would be different. Here, government is entrusted to the people, and power is limited by principle.

Eight years ago, Parkland was forever changed. Seventeen of our neighbors were taken from us at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and our community has carried that pain ever since.

Allowing the ACA tax credits to expire put millions of Americans at risk of losing healthcare. That’s why House Democrats just passed a bipartisan bill to restore those credits. Now it’s time for the Senate to act. No family should lose healthcare because of Washington inaction.

I was proud to stand with @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and my colleagues to say in one clear voice that Congress should not leave for the holidays without acting to lower healthcare costs. Speaker Johnson must put the ACA tax credit extension vote on the floor today. Not next year. Today.

It’s completely unacceptable that 164,000 of my constituents will see their healthcare costs skyrocket because @SpeakerJohnson took the vote off the table this week. If you don't even have "concepts of a plan" then maybe it's time to work with Democrats to make one.

Storms in Florida are getting costlier every year, and families are paying for it in skyrocketing insurance costs. So today I reintroduced my bill to lower what you pay for home insurance. Hurricanes are already a disaster, insurance shouldn't be one too.

Our veterans represent the very best America has to offer. Our nation would be nothing without the courage of those who’ve served in uniform. On Veterans Day, let’s reaffirm our commitment to never stop fighting for those who fought for us. America stands taller because of you.

On Saturday, the nearly three million Floridians who rely on SNAP to feed their families won’t receive the food assistance they’re counting on. As I continue to press for a solution to get SNAP benefits flowing again, know that there are resources here in South Florida to help.

More people in South Florida get health care through the ACA exchange than anywhere else in America. If ACA tax credits expire, lifesaving coverage will become unaffordable for millions overnight. Congress can’t let this happen—come back to the table, and let’s work out a deal.

FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund is a lifeline for communities rebuilding after a disaster, and these resources shouldn’t be put at risk because of a shutdown. Through my new bill, Floridians can be confident that the recovery funds they’re counting on will still be delivered.

I filed this bill with @reptroycarter.bsky.social to ensure families rebuilding after a disaster still receive the relief promised to them, even in a shutdown. Our communities shouldn’t have to worry whether these resources will reach them just because Congress can’t keep government open.

Today I’m introducing the Federal Emergency Management Continuity Act with @reptroycarter.bsky.social to ensure communities will continue to receive authorized disaster relief funds during a shutdown. No families’ recovery should be at risk just because Congress can’t do its job.
