Google has finally approved build 60 for Android users which means CarPlay should be up and running! They did identify a couple issues we’ll need to review but it should still be usable for testers. Thank you for your patience and thanks for sticking with us!

It has been way too long since we've posted an update on here to let you know what's going on with the app so here's what's up:

Pretty frustrated this evening. The newest version that has Android Auto and a lot of new features/fixes has been waiting in review with Google for 4 days. Not sure what's causing it to take so long and we're so excited to get the newest version out to you all. Refreshing the page every few minutes.

Quick update to anyone wondering where things are at for Android. Google finally approved our open beta track with an old version. We've started the process twice now to get a newer version reviewed and found bugs before it was approved so we pulled the release before it could go out.

Small update: First, we're still waiting on Google to finish its review of our Android open beta test which has been holding us back since September 13th. Once it's approved we'll be able to update the app for anyone on iOS or Android to fix a number of known bugs and share new features.

Need your honest opinion: Currently, Maple Maps is only available in Canada with maps of Canada. Should we open it up for our American friends to use too? And if we do, what’s the first place we should rename?

Wow! I hadn't checked in a couple days but we're up to nearly 4000 people who've expressed interest in joining our Beta which is humbling and overwhelming! Not a lot of updates in the last couple days so I'd like to share some important info:

There was a brief slow down that might have felt like an outage for some. We were in the process of adding a bunch of new business listings and tweaking map tiles and it caused things to get backlogged. Should be all fixed now and as a bonus you should be getting more results when you search

The Canadian map now knows every house in the country, every bus that runs past it, and how to say "chemin Giroux". Maple Maps 1.0: transit in 111 cities with real-time arrivals, a French voice named Céline, three routes that are really three. No ads, no data sold, hosted in Canada. maplemaps.ca

A phone showing Maple Maps: a route from Union Station to Yorkdale in Toronto with three options, via Allen Road in 18 minutes, via Yonge Street in 22 and via Parkside Drive in 25, and a red Start button. Headline: Version 1.0.

Sorry to anyone who experienced some slowness or freezing while using maps this afternoon/evening. Turns out that building and running a national mapping service and adding on live transit data takes some beefier hardware than what we initially set up.

Hey again! Late night update: Today has been all about refinement. We started the day by announcing we've added a lot of new address data to our own database. Throughout today we've been working on cleaning that data against our other sources to remove duplicates.

150

maplemaps.bsky.social @maplemaps.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

DEV UPDATE: We've just managed to incorporate a ton of new address data and fine tune how search results are showing up. In addition, search results should come quicker and the closed roads/traffic should be more reliable.

As part of Maple Maps' focus on promoting Canadian businesses with a special focus on local business I'd like to try and make a daily post about another Canadian company that needs our support. Yesterday I shared a video from eSupply Canada, a Canadian Indigenous owned office supply company.

Running out of midnight oil to burn! Got a bit overexcited and pushed out new build this evening without stress testing it fully. Then we pushed out a new build quickly thinking it fixed the issue but it didn't. Didn't want to leave anyone hanging so we're pushing out one last build tonight.

Build 30 (iOS) and Release 17 (Android) are out for testing. Make sure to update your app so you can get the newest features. TL;DR: - Maps, routing, search, map icons, etc... have been rebuild in house. TomTom is only used for traffic and as a fallback. - Two new much more realistic voices added

A few people have asked by email if there was a way to donate to help cover the costs of getting this project off the ground. Since some of you have asked, I've set up a donation on a Canadian based site in case anyone does want to donate: www.tiing.co/maple-maps/

Getting a new build ready to go out feels like a game of whack-a-mole. By the time everything looks good to go, there are another dozen emails with great feedback and bug reports! It's a good problem to have and we're so grateful for everyone sending in their feedback.

A lot of exciting updates coming out in the new build (hopefully out later today): - Completely new maps. We are now only using TomTom to supply traffic data! - New maps means we also have improved bike routing - New voices for navigation that sound like humans - Icons on the screen can be tapped

Another dev update: We've made a ton of progress today towards bringing almost the entirety of our back end mapping in-house. What this means is that our core version of Maple Maps will truly hold all its mapping data on servers run in Canada.

maplemaps.bsky.social @maplemaps.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

Development Update: There are some things that, as a tiny company, we just can't do without using the back end of a larger company. In our case, that is traffic and satellite imagery which require a lot of resources and a large user base to provide useful data.

maplemaps.bsky.social @maplemaps.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Hey everyone, For some reason our back end map provider didn’t auto refill our balance when it hit our threshold so some people are reporting getting an error. Things should be back up and running shortly if it isn’t already.

A question for the road. We're thinking about a Canadian voice for the directions: someone whose "turn left in 200 metres" you'd actually want to hear every day. Who's at the top of your list? Reply with a name. Serious and unserious answers both count.

Avant-première : un insigne LOCAL pour les commerces indépendants. Une entreprise, une adresse, un permis de sa ville, aucune chaîne derrière. On commence par Edmonton et Calgary dans la prochaine version.
