I'm constantly stuck battling the cost/benefit ratio of every technique:

(me as a very loose and undefined sketch looking at mannequin me) It's vibrant but... too loose? (in red) IT IS.

(me in a self conscious pose, with a shorthand that implies some structure in a really quick and formulaic/conventional way) it's efficient but... do I miss details when i'm too reliant on my shorthand? (in red) I DO.

It's probably why my boards look like they're drawing by many different artists. [image: three panels of an example storyboard with two characters talking and each character is drawn completely different each time they show up]

There's never one answer, it usually comes down to (emphasis) what do I need for this drawing?

My usual response: [simple sketch of me looking a little uncomfortable saying] "I don't know..."

In reality, I probably do know.

A lifetime of anxiety and insecurity makes making decisions scary. It's easier to pick a technique out of a hat and hope that any problems it creates are insignificant down the line.
