With 10 years of experience and a background in Physics, Philosophy, and Computer Games Engineering, Fergus knows how to turn tricky topics into lightbulb moments. They're especially great with learners who think outside the box (and those who’ve been told they don’t “fit” in the box at all).

Many learners who come to Limitless Learners have had a really difficult time in education. Some have felt misunderstood. Some have been told they are “too much” or “not trying hard enough”. Some have slowly started to believe those things about themselves. And then the right tutor comes along.
Recruitment graphic for Limitless Learners' tutor directory. Top: award badges for the 2023 Scottish Asian & Business Awards and SAMEE's Supporting Inclusive Learning Award, alongside the Limitless Learners Education & Development logo with tagline 'Nothing Can Stop You.' Headline text reads 'The right tutor can change everything. Join our tutor directory and help learners feel seen, supported, and capable.' Below, a before-and-after illustration: on the left, a student slumps face-down on a cluttered desk surrounded by handwritten negative thoughts ('I'm not trying hard enough,' 'I don't fit in,' 'I always get it wrong,' 'Everyone else seems to find it so easy,' 'Maybe I'm just not good at this,' 'I hate school,' 'I feel overwhelmed'). An arrow points to the right side, showing a smiling curly-haired boy and a tutor working together at a desk with a laptop, notebooks, and pens, under the text 'I just needed someone who understands how I learn.' The website limitlesslearners.co.uk appears at the bottom.

This is why exponents are so powerful. And why they show up everywhere from computer memory to population growth to compound interest. 💡 Study tip: When you see a power, don't multiply. Count the doublings (or triplings, or whatever the base is).

But that's not what's happening. 2¹⁰ means 2 multiplied by itself ten times: 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 Each step doubles the previous number. It snowballs. Fast. 2... 4... 8... 16... 32... 64... 128... 256... 512... 1,024.

🔢 "2 to the 10th is like... 20?" "okay maybe 200?" It's 1,024. 😅 Exponents catch people out every single time. And honestly, it makes sense why. Our brains are wired to think in addition. So when we see 2¹⁰, we instinctively think 2 x 10 = 20.
Limitless Learners graphic on a purple striped background with a white content card. Scottish Asian & Business Awards 2023 Winner and Supporting Inclusive Learning Award logos, plus the Limitless Learners logo and tagline 'Nothing can stop you,' shown at the top. Card labelled 'Exponents' shows a step-by-step thought process: step 1 reads '2 to the 10th is like... 20?', step 2 reads 'okay maybe 200?', step 3 reads '2 to the power of 10 equals 1024.' A highlighted explanation below reads 'Exponents multiply, they don't scale. 2 to the power of 10 means 2 multiplied by itself ten times, not 2 times 10. It snowballs fast, all the way to 1024.' The best maths explanations aren't always the most complicated ones. Sometimes a simple analogy is all it takes for something to finally click. What's a maths concept that confused you for years before it suddenly made sense?

Limitless Learners @limitlesslearners.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
A simple way to think about it: Imagine a negative number as a change in direction. One negative changes direction. A second negative changes it back. That's why: -3 × -4 = +12

Limitless Learners @limitlesslearners.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
➖ A lie about a lie is the truth. Sounds like philosophy. It's actually maths. 😄 One of the most confusing things students learn is why a negative multiplied by a negative gives a positive.
Graphic from Limitless Learners explaining why a negative times a negative equals a positive. The main text reads, "A lie about a lie... is the truth. (−)(−) = +". Below, it explains: "Two flips cancel out. Multiplying by a negative flips the sign. Flip it twice and you land back on positive — so −3 × −4 = +12." The top includes award logos and the Limitless Learners logo with the tagline "Nothing Can Stop You," and the website address "limitlesslearners.co.uk" appears at the bottom.

In classrooms, diversity matters. When learners see their cultures, experiences, and identities recognised and valued, they are more likely to feel a sense of belonging. When we learn from one another, we build stronger communities and a greater understanding of the world around us.

🌏 South Asian Heritage Month UK South Asian Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the histories, cultures, achievements, and contributions of South Asian communities across the UK. It is also an opportunity to listen, learn, and appreciate the rich diversity that helps shape our society.

Taking problems one step at a time often makes them much easier than they first appear. How would you solve it? If maths feels overwhelming, try slowing down and breaking questions into smaller chunks. Your brain can focus on one step at a time instead of everything at once.

Limitless Learners @limitlesslearners.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
One of the biggest reasons students get stuck in maths isn't because the maths is too hard. It's because they rush through the steps. In maths, order matters. ✅ Brackets first ✅ Then division and multiplication from left to right ✅ Then addition and subtraction

😂 The internet's favourite maths debate is back... 6 ÷ 2(1 + 2) = ? Every year, thousands of people argue about it. The answer isn't really the interesting part. The lesson is.
Educational infographic from Limitless Learners about order of operations. The graphic humorously references the recurring internet debate over the equation “6 ÷ 2(1 + 2) = ???” with the text “Nobody: Absolutely nobody: The internet, every single year.” A highlighted explanation states: “Do it in order, not all at once. Parentheses first: 1 + 2 = 3. Then left to right: 6 ÷ 2 = 3, and 3 × 3 = 9. That’s PEMDAS.” The top of the image includes award logos and the Limitless Learners branding with the slogan “Nothing Can Stop You,” and the website address appears at the bottom.

Large text reads, “WORLD REFUGEE DAY” followed by the message, “Together, we can create a world where everyone feels safe and accepted.” The date “20th June” appears below.
