The Government must get a grip before winter pressures push even more people into these appalling conditions. Prime Minister, feel free to take our ideas and protect patients now. Our plan 👇 www.libdems.org.uk/news/article...

Our plan to end the A&E corridor crisis
30,000 people wait for over 12 hours in A&E departments every single week - it's a national scandal and we have a plan to stop it.

We've set out a costed £1.5bn plan to end corridor care in 12 months. It would fund more step-down care and social care, so patients who are well enough to leave hospital can do so, and beds are freed up for those who need them.

When the Liberal Democrats put forward an amendment to end corridor care within a year, Labour voted it down. The Conservatives didn't even turn up to vote.

Labour promised to end corridor care by the end of this Parliament. These figures show things are going backwards on their watch.

That's a 14% rise since May, when records began. Since then, patients have been treated in hospital corridors more than 470,000 times. Behind every one of those numbers is someone's mum, dad, grandparent or child, waiting for care in a hallway.

Helen Morgan MP @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
Corridor care has hit a record high, and winter hasn't even started yet. In September, an average of more than 3,300 patients a day were treated in A&E corridors or on wards without a proper bed space. That's almost 100,000 times in a single month. 🧵

The motion passed at Green Party Conf' actively undermines a 2-state solution, and does not address the rising threats of Islamophobia and Antisemitism here in the UK. This is a divisive motion that pours fuel on the fire of tensions in the UK, and will leave many British Jews feeling less safe.

Ahead of Conference, @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social spoke to new parents in Brighton about maternity care. For too long, too many families have been let down by the maternity crisis. That’s why we passed our motion to make England the safest place to have a baby.

Without the pre-briefing that we have been used to with previous alerts, this understandably left some people concerned for their safety, including those who are vulnerable. I was pleased the Minister committed to learning lessons from their experiences.

This time last month our phones were alerting us to the real and heightened risk of wildfires. The emergency alert came through loud and clear to most, but North Shropshire residents living close to the Wales border have told me they only received the message in Welsh.

We also need to ensure this situation is not repeated next year, so that we avoid them having to pay the price for failing to plan ahead. #backbritishfarming #togetherwearestronger

Defra have clearly been unprepared for this outbreak, which could have been predicted. Today is the NFU - National Farmers' Union Back British Farming Day. With Bluetongue cases confirmed in Shropshire, farmers need practical support now.

Helen Morgan MP @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
The Government admits Bluetongue is now a serious situation, yet many in the industry have been raising concerns about preparedness, vaccination and disease control for months.

Livestock farmers in North Shropshire this summer have already endured soaring costs, drought pressures and falling returns. Now they're facing the devastating impact of Bluetongue, with movement restrictions disrupting businesses.

The Govt backing our calls for a strong Maternity Commissioner is a big step towards safer care, and a win for brave campaigners like Louise Thompson But with 65% of maternity units unsafe, we must go further. @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social

Rural deprivation is real. It's time for a fair deal for North Shropshire and rural counties like ours.

On my return to Parliament, I set out how years of unfair Government funding have left places like North Shropshire paying more and getting less.

Rural communities are being short-changed. ❌ Underfunded schools ❌ Mounting pressure on social care ❌ Urban councils given more ❌ Fewer opportunities for young people ❌ Fewer bus services ❌Higher costs of delivering in remote areas

Really serious allegations are made in this Channel 4 programme. It’s only right that a full investigation takes place - there can be no place for this in our politics.

A devolution deal for Shropshire? Questioning the Prime Minister on his first day back, I asked him to elaborate on his devolution plans, and explain when our county would get the powers and resources needed to help turn around life chances for people across North Shropshire.

With six in ten maternity units unsafe, this is shocking but not surprising. It’s totally unacceptable. It’s time for a complete overhaul of maternity safety, including a 24/7 consultant on every ward and 1-1 midwifery care for every woman in labour. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

People are worried about being able to get a doctor’s appointment, a school place for their children, the increase in traffic. As I return to Parliament next week, this issue will be top of my list.

But in every market town I’ve been to, and at every public meeting I held, there’s one message I heard loud and clear. The number of new houses being built or planned here - without the necessary infrastructure to support them - is a huge concern.

Drug dealing, anti-social behaviour, the state of the roads, traffic problems, and much more. It’s been good to hear from people across North Shropshire this summer about the issues that concern them most.

Imagine having to give birth in a layby because the hospital's too far? That's the reality facing women in Devon & across the country. @andyburnham.bsky.social will you listen to families & make sure hospitals aren't short staffed & by stopping maternity units closing in our communities?

Can you imagine being on a hospital ward, either as staff or as a patient, when it’s over 40 degrees in there? I suspect not, and I think you shouldn’t have to. www.thetimes.com/article/ef82...

From Mid Staffordshire to Morecambe Bay, NHS scandals have shown the cost of concerns being ignored. Labour’s Health Bill will take an axe to vital patient safeguards. Andy Burnham must intervene and protect patients. @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social

Decades of tragic NHS scandals prove our health service needs accountability at the heart of its DNA. Labour’s Health Bill guts hard-won safety measures and lets the NHS mark its own homework. Andy Burnham must urgently put an end to this.

This is an opportunity to ensure disabled people's voices are heard and help shape future policy. Through this survey, the Government has a chance to really listen to the experiences of disabled people, and to reform the benefits system in a more collaborative and compassionate way.

If you receive PIP, @disrightsuk.bsky.social wants to hear about your experiences. Your feedback will help inform the organisation's response to the Government's Timms Review, an independent review looking at whether PIP is fair, effective and fit for the future.

Caring has been central to my life, and the lives of millions across the country. I'll be meeting the Prime Minister today to discuss how we can finally find a solution to the care crisis. We need to do things differently. I really hope we are on a journey to fix this.

Shropshire Council has struggled after years of Conservative mismanagement followed by the Labour Government's funding cuts. Starmer's successor is full of promises based around his Manchester model, but rural communities like North Shropshire are very different to big cities.

We do need to better fund defence as a country, but not by clawing cash from critical infrastructure and road safety programmes. I'll be meeting with National Highways to get clarity on the funding for the proposed works.

The Deputy Prime Minster's response today was concerning. We cannot afford for road schemes like the roundabout proposed for the A483 at Llynclys to be the fall guy, just to shore up the Government's underfunded and late Defence Investment Plan.

North Shropshire schools are working so hard day-in, day-out – the Government needs to commit more resources and fund them fairly.
