Ahead of Conference, @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social spoke to new parents in Brighton about maternity care. For too long, too many families have been let down by the maternity crisis. That’s why we passed our motion to make England the safest place to have a baby.

This time last month our phones were alerting us to the real and heightened risk of wildfires. The emergency alert came through loud and clear to most, but North Shropshire residents living close to the Wales border have told me they only received the message in Welsh.

Livestock farmers in North Shropshire this summer have already endured soaring costs, drought pressures and falling returns. Now they're facing the devastating impact of Bluetongue, with movement restrictions disrupting businesses.

The Govt backing our calls for a strong Maternity Commissioner is a big step towards safer care, and a win for brave campaigners like Louise Thompson But with 65% of maternity units unsafe, we must go further. @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social

Rural communities are being short-changed. ❌ Underfunded schools ❌ Mounting pressure on social care ❌ Urban councils given more ❌ Fewer opportunities for young people ❌ Fewer bus services ❌Higher costs of delivering in remote areas

Really serious allegations are made in this Channel 4 programme. It’s only right that a full investigation takes place - there can be no place for this in our politics.

A devolution deal for Shropshire? Questioning the Prime Minister on his first day back, I asked him to elaborate on his devolution plans, and explain when our county would get the powers and resources needed to help turn around life chances for people across North Shropshire.

With six in ten maternity units unsafe, this is shocking but not surprising. It’s totally unacceptable. It’s time for a complete overhaul of maternity safety, including a 24/7 consultant on every ward and 1-1 midwifery care for every woman in labour. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Drug dealing, anti-social behaviour, the state of the roads, traffic problems, and much more. It’s been good to hear from people across North Shropshire this summer about the issues that concern them most.

Imagine having to give birth in a layby because the hospital's too far? That's the reality facing women in Devon & across the country. @andyburnham.bsky.social will you listen to families & make sure hospitals aren't short staffed & by stopping maternity units closing in our communities?

Can you imagine being on a hospital ward, either as staff or as a patient, when it’s over 40 degrees in there? I suspect not, and I think you shouldn’t have to. www.thetimes.com/article/ef82...

From Mid Staffordshire to Morecambe Bay, NHS scandals have shown the cost of concerns being ignored. Labour’s Health Bill will take an axe to vital patient safeguards. Andy Burnham must intervene and protect patients. @helenmorganlibdem.bsky.social

Decades of tragic NHS scandals prove our health service needs accountability at the heart of its DNA. Labour’s Health Bill guts hard-won safety measures and lets the NHS mark its own homework. Andy Burnham must urgently put an end to this.

Caring has been central to my life, and the lives of millions across the country. I'll be meeting the Prime Minister today to discuss how we can finally find a solution to the care crisis. We need to do things differently. I really hope we are on a journey to fix this.

After so many reviews, recommendations and the delayed publication of corridor care statistics, the Government needs to act fast to bring maternity and hospital safety up to scratch.

Yesterday was our final session of line-by-line scrutiny of the Health Bill. We have been fighting at Committee Stage to amend the Government's Health Bill for provisions for patients, staff, carers and our NHS to be as good as possible.

Corridor care costs lives. Last week in the Health Bill Committee, Danny Chambers and I debated our new clauses to improve the bill, including ending corridor care, introducing a Maternity Commissioner, protecting patient voice and safety, and proposals for a Health Data Charter.

The Deputy Prime Minster's response today was concerning. We cannot afford for road schemes like the roundabout proposed for the A483 at Llynclys to be the fall guy, just to shore up the Government's underfunded and late Defence Investment Plan.

Schoolchildren in North Shropshire are being short-changed by more than £2,000 – each! Schools here get just £6,556 per pupil funding from the Government, compared to the national average of £8,580.

The Amos Report confirms our worst fears, and what we already knew. Maternity services are failing women and babies and political neglect has left maternity services broken, with families paying the price in trauma, injury and lost lives.

Lovely to be invited to reopen a bridge at Bronygarth village, near Oswestry recently, after complex works to ensure its future safety were completed. The village was split in two when the bridge was severely damaged during winter storms in 2024, so it was good to see residents finally reunited.

Enough is enough. The maternity failings in Shropshire shocked us all. But the same failures have been repeated over and over. Today must be the moment we say no more - no more women should be made to give birth on an unsafe ward.

This isn’t just a rip off, it’s an accident waiting to happen. I’ve received several complaints from people in North Shropshire about the poor experience they’ve had with property management firm FirstPort. I’m pleased the Minister agreed to meet to sort out the company's poor performance.

Wes said it himself - we need actions and not just words. Yet 18 months later there's still no data. It's just not good enough - I'm not sure 'shortly' really cuts it anymore. We need the data, and a plan to end the national disgrace of corridor care.

Nearly 16,000 deaths associated with long A&E waits is an outrage. The Government said it would publish reliable data on long waits and corridor care by the end of May, but we're still waiting. What are they trying to hide?

I want Wem to have a Banking Hub and today I brought LINK to the town to see why it's so important. Their current criteria that drives the decision on whether to grant a Hub or not fail to take into account the realities of living, working and operating a business in a rural market town.

The Government’s Health Bill doesn’t fix the problems patients actually face. Too many people still can’t get a GP appointment, A&E waits are rising, and social care is in crisis - yet the focus is on shuffling responsibility around Whitehall and centralising power, not on frontline care.
