Advanced coding can draw on external data sources such as book & journal articles, but their use differs during advanced coding than during theoretical integration. Find out how in the latest post of The Grounded Theorist at thegroundedtheorist.wordpress.com/2025/03/26/a...

An often talked about but rarely defined aspect of grounded theory studies, what is explanatory power? At The Grounded Theorist I breakdown the concepts inherent in the term explanatory power, explain what it is, & when & how it is achieved: thegroundedtheorist.wordpress.com/2025/02/26/e...

Most grounded theories are substantive grounded theories, their difference with formal grounded theories being one of scope. Find out more in the latest post of The Grounded Theorist at thegroundedtheorist.wordpress.com/2025/02/12/s...

Views on using CAQDAS (computer aided qualitiatve data analysis software) in grounded theory studies are mixed. For an overview of the differing perspectives read the latest post of The Grounded Theorist at thegroundedtheorist.wordpress.com/2025/01/15/u...

Thank you to everyone who's supported @groundedtheory.bsky.social in the past year. As I plan next year's blog posts, I welcome suggestions about the questions you have about grounded theory. Who knows, it may make it onto the blog in 2025! #AskMeAnything #GroundedTheory #Questions

Quality is important in assuring both that a grounded theory study is well conducted and that the outcomes are credible. Approaches differ across versions of grounded theory. Find out how in the latest post of The Grounded Theorist at thegroundedtheorist.wordpress.com/2024/12/11/m...

@groundedtheory.bsky.social Well I never! An account for (C)GT. I've not only used CGT (methods) for my thesis, I've also been ranting for years about what (C)GT is not: if I read one more time that someone "uses (C)GT" and is "inductive" without knowing what it is/its development, I will scream.

Agreed! While thankful for Glaser & Strauss in 1967 developing GT as a counter to the quantitative emphasis, there have been such issues with original Grounded Theory and its quasi positivist assumptions 'to make it palatable'. Thank goodness for Constructivist GT and Charmaz

Reading an article where the research was done is pretty cool. 😎 Not enough publications on how #qualitative methods are enacted via the use of digital tools so this is a great read if you’re interested in Grounded Theory and the use of #CAQDAS #QualitativeResearch #QDA #MAXQDA

My dissertation proposal. Grounded theory researching cycle of whitewashed history=deficit ideology= meritocratic policy. Rinse and repeat.

This form of grounded theory involves triple reasoning - inductive, deductive and abductive. It aligns quite well to Charmaz’s constructivist grounded theory, but involves explicitly returning to the literature to inform codes and themes.

Transcribing data can both facilitate a deeper level of understanding of your data and a sense of overwhelm when coding. Find out the benefits and challenges of choosing whether or not to transcribe in the latest post of The Grounded Theorist at thegroundedtheorist.wordpress.com/2024/11/27/t...
