Our stove was here when we bought the house in 1999 and it's gas (which I don't really love in the era of inductive stovetops) and kind of janky, but as long as it's still working it stays. That goes double for the freezer in the basement (also 1999).

For all the talk about him (maybe) inviting the destruction of two major West Coast cities, I would like to see more anger out there about the casual way both he and Hegseth have started using an old slur against trans people as part of their public dialogue. It's gross and needs more pushback.

Some personal news: please welcome Charlie, a 7 month old rescue pup. It's been almost a year since @lisafybush.bsky.social and I lost our beloved Sadie, and uncertain times are a little easier to take with a friendly face and a waggy tail.

Who's the best boy? This brown and white dog with a pinkish nose and a majestic demeanor, at least in the moments when he's not already claiming the sofa as his own.

It's not just the host. Doing a show like this the right way requires a pretty significant production team behind the scenes, and two hours of show a day with just two producers is a huge strain. Even getting that minimal a staff was a struggle. Bob Smith did the show with no producer at all.

This is actually something I pushed for even before Evan. Very few public stations do 2 hours a day of local talk, and if they do it's with a MUCH larger staff than the 2 people plus Evan who produce Connections. It's an unsustainable workload and this should result in tighter, better shows.

Most of the team's personnel were in Memphis, but Spikes hung out with the fans to celebrate the win. Now it's on to Las Vegas for a one-game AAA championship on Saturday.

There were only a couple hundred diehard fans in the park and it was 53 degrees out, but there is nowhere else I would rather have been. It was electric at the end as the Wings retook the lead in the 8th.

My hometown Rochester Red Wings won the International League championship tonight on the road in Memphis, for the first time since '97, but we watched on the screen at the ballpark . Here's me with my son in the seats where I sat with my late dad 29 years ago. (29 was his favorite number.)
